MALE with colonic inertia (only 2% of people diagnosed with colonic inertia are males)

I am 65 yr. old, retired from the medical field, and living in a large city (350,000 residents) n the South.
I was informed of my very rare disease(very rare since I am a man) in early September 2010.My diagnosis is colonic inertia. I have seen two internists, two gastroenterological specialists, and two colorectal surgeons
( locally) during the past 3 months. I have had every procedure (gastrographen enema, Sitz marker, barium enemas, ad nauseum) and have taken every prescription medication ordered by physicians, during that time frame. As of this date ( November 10, 2010 ) nothing has worked.

I know that the Mayo Clinic and Johns Hopkins (Baltimore, Maryland) are the BEST hospitals in the US. I have chosen to go to Johns Hopkins for my colectomy, because I have several close friends who live in Baltimore, and they will be a great support system for me, pre- and post-op.

I am waiting for an appointment date from Johns Hopkins. My question is this: Are there any males on this website who have had a total colectomy, or has the husband ( or male friend ) of any of the ladies who post on here, had the procedure?

Remember,if you remove the lower sigmoid near your male sex,you could loose tonus or nerve sensation.

That's what i ve been told.I think most surgeons dosen't mention these things much.
