For anyone suffering from severe constipation/colonic dysmotility, if you also have issues with fatigue, joint pain, muscle pain, etc it is worth looking into ehlers danlos syndrome / hypermobility syndrome.
I have ehlers danlos and have severe dysmotility and will be having surgery to create a stoma from my appendix to flush my bowel through. Ehlers danlos is a genetic conditon that affects connective tiisue causing very flexible joints, eventual arthritis, osteoperosis, chronic fatigue, and also affects the digestive system usually causing motility problems, as well as sometimes causing gastroperises, nausea, reflux, ibs etc.
I came here to look for ino on the surgery im having but had to post this after reading so many of you having such severe constipation and not being taken seriously by drs. I was ignored by drs for years despite having signs of EDS including severe constipation from early childhood. I didnt get diagnosed till i was 27.
EDS is rare however its important if you are having such GI problems that arent responding to treatment or offer explanation to look at other symptoms u may.
Also have you tried irrigation? Microlax and other very strong laxatives dont work for me so i was put on peristeen, a colonic irrigation system you do yourself at home. It was designed for people with spinal chord injuries but its usd now for people with motility issues. Up until recently it worked really well for and and gave me back my life nd control of my toileting. Ask your dr about it although if you have a dr who isnt taking your dysmotility seriously it is worth finding a dr who will becuase this problem is serious and you shouldnt be left to just put up with it.
Please pm me if you want anyinfo on EDS or the irrigation treatment.
