Hi guys, i was just wondering if any of you out there who have an ilieostomy, have ever had any motions from the back passage since ur op? I do from time to time.. dont know wether it this is normal?

if you are speaking of your rectum passing mucus, then yes it's normal.

If you have a loop ileostomy then you could also have an 'old fashioned BM', too. It's one of those things that happens for some but not everyone.

hi I had this aswell yesterday on my home from hospital and was terrified I would have to go back in till I found out it was normal. Does anyone know where it comes from though? Without the large intestine there isnt anything connected to the rectum is there? is a small amount of blood in the stuff normal aswell, I only had my surgery 12 days ago so could of been left in there from that maybe?

If you have a loop ileo the 'connection' is not severed so waste could pass along to the lower part. The colon does continue to produce mucous so that would be normal for it to pass.

I had my op a year ago and I still have the sensation of needing to go to the toilet sometimes. Sometimes a little comes out, but other times alot of wot I would describe as diariha? Really weird.

Ohio. A loop ileostomy is not necessarily still connected to your colon.
I have a loop ileostomy, but no colon.
I still have a rectum.

My rectum also produces mucus, and I must 'empty' it occasionally.

Chasblah~you are right...I have an permanent end loop ileo with nothing below!

buddys~it sounds like you still have your colon and/or rectum?

I do still have my colon/rectum, I have a temp. Ilieostomy, but I don't want to get reversal.. I've never felt so well and couldn't face ever going back to the way I was.. I've got crohns disease and suffer with narrowings of the bowl.. Before my op, all I ate for nearly a year was mashed patatoes.. Now I'm a pig!!!!
