hollister convex rings

I recently tried the hollister convex seal. I found that it came off easily and clean as opposed to the eakin cohesive seal that left a mess. I did find that the hollister convex seal swelled up and restricted my stoma. I stopped using the hollister because of that. I now am trying a Convatec pouch with a convex wafer. It seals very well. I love Hollister but cannot use the convex barrier rings. I had similar problems and can really only use convex wafers, not convex rings.

Yeah, it seems my problem is that my stoma like to dance around as I call it. It will for the most part stay protruded but right before it pushes out stool my stoma will contract and because of this I can't use regular wafers. I've used convex wafers for several months now and the Hollister kind literally peeled off while I was taking a shower, if it wasn't for the belt I wore it would not have stayed on, then I tried Coloplast and the plastic-like material either peeled from my skin within minutes or it stayed on and cracked thus cutting my skin, finally I have used Convatec and for a while it worked great. I had excellent wear time of five to seven days but then I started to get a rash and it never went away so now I'm on to my next attempt. I'm young and I used to play sports so I need something light and flexible so my doctor told me to try cymed. It worked great and the rash almost went away in a day but my problem then was that at night I wasn't comfortable as the wafer looked like it was already lifting so now I'm trying them with the convex ring to try for a month or so. If anything it will give my stomach a break from the rash and possibly heal so I can go back to Convatec if needed.

Yes, ha ha, I am a man last time I checked. And yes, I have had great success with the Smith & Nephew tincture of benzoin spray. I got it from Edgepark. It helps keep my skin clear and it helps the wafer to stick better. But you have to make sure it is dry before putting on the wafer. I spray the entire area where the wafer goes.

If you are looking for a more flexible convex wafer, check out the Coloplast Sensura Flex. Very comfortable. It is what I am using now.

My stoma is round and the hollister convex was the right size with no reshaping. The problem I had was that the seal would swell up and restrict output. Sounds like my stoma works like yours.....it might be out until it pushes sewage out. Then it retracts violently and can hurt. I am considering surgery again to fix it. I am going to see a new surgeon.
Have you considered surgery to fix it?

Is the Smith & Nephew benzoin spray #420200 ? If not what is the number?

I have an Edgepark cataolg and I cannot find that number. What page is it on? The HCPCS number of the one I found is A4369.

When you remove your wafer is there any residue left from the benzoin? Is your wafer hard to get off? I never use soap on the wafer area, just water and paper towels. I am going to try putting the Friars on with a cotton ball. My supplier does not have the benzoin spray that you use. If it helps like you say I will have to go back to Edgepark as my supplier as long as they can accept my insurance.

I have been having a lot of irritation and itching under the convex wafer and the tape. Put on a new wafer today. Covered the entire area with Friars first. Strange, I never had this problem with flat, pliable wafers.
