Gggrrr....leak again could this be why?

So I leaked this morning. My husband and I were being intimate then later I took a shower and then I noticed I was leaking. I was so disapponted because it felt like such a good fit and no stinging. When I took it off I saw where it was leaking, but I'm not sure it told me anything. Also I am bleeding. It hurts so bad and my output is so much because I had breakfast. So I am sitting here with a roll of paper towels until the output slows down. Then I will take another shower and try again. Just hope I finish before my daughter's basketball game.

So I don't know if it was the intimacy or what caused this. I did feel a little pressure, but I emptied everything before.

Oh well, it held for two days.

Eh, it takes time to get used to applying the wafer and all that.
But I don't think it was the intimacy that caused it (well, it might depending on how, er, rough you were LOL)

I find that using a hairdryer on the wafer and warming it up plus the area around my stoma really helps it stick. Plus in the winter it feels good :D

Don't be afraid with trying different techniques and stuff. Also, if you haven't already, Sure seals are awesome. Makes the wafer stay on longer plus I never have to worry about water touching the wafer.

What do you mean, you're bleeding? Like the outside of your stoma or inside your intestines?

Unsure of the reason for the leak...could have been the intimacy; too hard to tell for us since we can't see how you put the wafer on and then what exactly happened. THe more practice you get at putting it on, the better it will stick. If you keep noticing that you leak at the same spot every time, then it's something that you'll need to look into. Until then, just keep practicing.

Thanks. I had these sticks from coloplast and next to my belly button I cut off a piece and put it there. There is a little crease so I hope it holds.

Yes my stoma is irritated and bleeding. I put lots of powder on and 3m spray. It hurt so bad I had to take a painkiller. Made it to my daughter's basketball game, though!

Where do you put the sure seal? I already use the hollister seal, but the sure seal looks different. Can you use both?

Ok...hoping for no leaks. My daughter is singing in the church choir tonight and I don't want to miss it. She keeps me busy! She is a major reason I had the surgery. I was so tired of missing all her events. She was so sweet today when I was having problems...asked what she could do to help even though the bag grosses her out. I feel so bad she has had to help
me so much. She's such a trooper.

Sometimes less is more so don't use both seals at once...sometimes one brand works better for individuals than others. If your stoma was irritated could it be that it wasn't centered quite right? I also find that I have 'wear' in the same spot of my wafer with each change. That will help determine what could be causing the problems.

Remember, you can also 'trim' the wafer so that it fits your stomach better. I actually take 1/4" off of one side because of the creases/scars on my stomach.

How many days of wear time did you get before the leak?

Glad you made it to your daughter's game! Our kids have a way of keeping us going:) I just spent the day at a horse show for mine...something I NEVER could have done before...up at 4am isn't a problem anymore:):)

I hope you got to the church choir too!!!

I got two days out of it and it felt really secure. I may have gotten it too wet, I'm just not sure.

Yes, we made it to church and she even led the last hymn. Then we came home and she told me she recorded Terms of Endearment and told me she really wanted to watch it with me (my husband left quickly). I warned her how sad it was. Oh my, we just finished and by the end we were both sobbing and holding each other. I kept saying, I told you it was really sad, lol.

Ohio, how nice you were able to go to the horse show. It's such a good reminder of why we had our surgeries.

Wait a minute, hold the phone.........favorite expression of mine from long ago.......if you are having stomal bleeding that is nothing to ignore. Could it be that it was rubbed against during intimacy? I know intimacy is important and all that, but a bleeding stoma is serious stuff.

Regarding the leak after intimacy, others on here have posted about that happening too. When you think about it, normally nothing is even close to the area of our stoma except our clothing. I would think any action of any kind rubbing or touching that area even if coincidentally would cause issues.

I have serious internal pelvic injuries from all my unneeded disaster surgery performed on me in 2006, many procedures I did not need, did not consent to and then they were done wrong. THis was not normal medicine, I fell in with "bad medicine" and ileostomy was all that could be done to save me. so I am totally out of the intimacy issue except for hugs and kisses which I cherish. BUT I admire all of you who are able to be intimate and wish you well. But, just dynamically, these are the things that come to mind when you described your issues after intimacy. Definitely discuss this with your partner and your doc. Good luck with this.

I agree with everything that has been said so far. I just wanted to add this because it has helped me in my intimate life as well as keeping the bag from leaking. I use a Hollister belt Product number 3774. it helps keep the wafer compressed until it can make a tight seal also I can tuck the bag into the belt when my girlfriend and I get intimate. I would defiantly look into it.
