Do most people have a certain amount of days before you change the pouch and wafer I hope thats the right term the sticky base bandaid type deal, showering seems to take life off it also.

Yup, most people on here seem to go between 4 and 7 days, unless they're having problems.
Personally, it's usually about
4 days for me.
(And yes, getting the wafer wet or sweating a lot will shorten its wear time).

I could go longer but usually change after 5 days.
Getting it wet?? I shower every day without covering anything. I dry the pouch and wafer with a hair dryer. I changed this morning, had breakfast and I am now going to shower.

When my CD is in remission and bag not on massive output like it is at moment, I can go 5-7 days without needing to change flange (sticky ring). The longer you can leave it the better the skin condition. I haven't had any skin irritation problems and think maybe I've just been lucky.
I don't find any problems with getting it wet in shower, bath, swimming or hot tub. Doesn't make any difference to the length of time before I need to change it. I also wrap a small towel round outside of bag against skin to soak up the excess water and leave it there for 5 minutes or so. This gets bulk of dampness off, then if necc will use hairdryer or if not in a hurry, lay down and let it dry out naturally.

Right now I am testing my wafer I am on my 6th day I will not go beyond 8 or 9 days. It is just so I can have extra days when absoutely necessary. So far no burning or itching. I use a coloplast extend wear flange and change the bag every other day or if I am going out will change to a closed pouch for the day. It is easier to just change the pouch then emptying in a public bathroom...Trixiemom

I cover the tape with waterproof tape, because I was having the same problem.

I like to go 4 days. My wafer doesn't leak or peel off after that, but my Adapt Ring start to erode enough where stool starts to touch the skin around my stoma a bit. I figure it is better to change more often to protect my skin (I don't seem to get any irritation from peeling my wafer off this frequently).

i change every 7 days. i once stayed with a wafer for 10 days. when i used hollister, i used to have problems with the wafer peeling off in the shower or when i sweat, but with coloplast i don't have that problem at all. you could also try sure seals, everyone here sais it helps a lot.

I will replace my wafer every 3 days for the most part. Some times i will try and get 4 days out of them. My bag I change every 2 days. And you are right, I have found that water tends to take life of the wafers. I try to keep water off them as much as possible but it can not be helped for the most part. Also there are wafers that are designed to last longer than others. Like the Hollister wafer #14203 is a short term wafer (2-3 days) and the Hollister wafer #14603 is a long term wafer (3-4 days I have found both wafers can be worn longer (I tested them in terms of how long I could ware them before they fell off)

i usually go about
6 days. Sure seals will really help the life of your wafer.
showering shouldn't be taking it off, unless you are using skin prep, that will cause that to happen. But even then a sure seal should solve that problem.
if it's just the bandaid part thats lifting up that's not that big of a deal, the real way to tell is if it's hard to pull the wafer off, if you have a lot of junk to clean off still, and its hard to pull away from your skin, you could have left it longer.

Geez, wish we could get that long of a wear time out of J's. His is off almost every morning. If we get 2 or 3 days out of one we are feeling pretty lucky! Fortunately, we seldom have any skin issues. I do believe that because of his urinary incotinence (he wears diapers) is the reason for such short wear time. I did request the free samples of the sure seals to see if that helps. I am anxious to get them and try it out.

Normally I go 6 days in between changes, but I have gove 7 days. I use ConvaTec and Eakin Seals. Looking into trying the Sure seals as well.
I guess you can say I'm experimenting, but I'm trying to see if I can get 9 days out of it! On days 7 right now and it feels really good!

I use Hollister waffer no. 14804 and I usually get 3 to 4 days between changes. Last week I had to change it twice in 24 hrs due to leaks. I don't have any problems showering with the flange and bag on. It doesn't seem to shorten the time between changes. I get a lot of irritation arround the stoma if I go longer than 3 or 4 days between changes. The time between changes depends a lot on the amount of acid in the stool.
