Hi all,
Sorry this is going to be long post.
Nearly a year ago i woke up to find a lump down below, within a few hours i had a really big lump and a lot of pain. Pain that i
can say was worse that labour. I went to my doctor who sent me to hospital for emergency surgery, which never happened. I sent
two days in hospital not being allowed to eat as they said the surgeon might happen. Then at 8pm at night when all food was gone
they would turn round and say i could eat as surgery was not going to happen that day and was left with sandwich which i dont eat
as i dont like bread. In two days i was there i was on IV drip and they where wanting my permission for internal which there was
no way they where going to do as i couldn't sit never mind anyone touch it. The only other thing they talk about was a ultrascan
which i couldn't understand at time as the pain without touching it was too much nevermind them touching it. So the night of the
2nd day there i asked to leave as i felt that the surgery was not going to happen as it was never meantioned and i did keep asking
them if surgery was going to happen and wasn't getting answer. They sent me on my way with 12 days of 2 different antibotics, 2
different painkillers and load of other drugs. At one point i was taking like 21 pills a day. I was told the the abcess would go
away but there would be a chance of it flaring back up. 2 weeks later i ended back in A&E as it had flared back up big time. The
next day i was told by the surgeon it was Bartholin abscess and i would have it operated on and be on later that night. This
never happened i woke up to find i had oxygen on and ended up in hospital for 4 day nearly 5 days nurse was not keen on letting me
go after 4 days but surgeon told me i could go. In thoese 4 days i never seen a doctor or surgeon to explain what had gone on and
why i had this plastic thin down below.
It took me 6 weeks to get back on my feet and had a visit from the nurse nearly everyday for 4 weeks and had no help to look after
my 3 year old as the hosptial where meant to get me childcare and of course that never happened as of course no one came near me
when i was in hospital so it was not arranged. I then went and push to see my surgeon again as i felt i hadn't been told anything
and the seton suture that was used to keep the area open to drain the infection was giving me a lot of discomfort and pain. about
3 months later i managed to get appointment to see the surgeon who did the operation.
The surgeon then told me my muscle had been damaged and there was a chance of incontinence but they wouldn't know till the next op which was happened about 2 weeks later.
To find out the reason i was in for 4 days was given to me by my doctor and he said it was because when they cut me open they found it wasn't a Bartholin abscess it was a perianal abscess and during the operation they had to change sugeons and i was left on table i dont know but i know i was at least under for over 4 hours. That was also the reason why i was on oxygen and seems that i was in the wrong ward and my doctor seems to think thats why no one came near me cause no one knew i was there.
So after the next op as usual no surgeon came to explain was had happen i was left to speak to a ignorant woaman, i was told she
was his assistant. She had me in tears as she then told me that they had to put another drain in and that it would be in for
years the reason because i still had an infection and the other reason why she didnt say and i was too upset to get anymore
information.
i was next to see my surgeon in about 3 months, but 2 weeks to my date i was sent to him as i was having my stomach pain and my
doctor was concerned it might to do with abcess that i had and he wanted me to have CT scan and again my surgeon didnt even know i
was there for my stomach and thought it was just a routine appointment. Even after telling him i was there for pains in my
stomach he never even check it and said o this colonoscopy procedure should have been done a while back so we do this and have a
look as your stomach as same time. The procedure went ahead and again he was meant to come and see me and this didnt happen, the only thing i found out was i read a piece of paper that said that no migration which the nurse couldn't explain. I left that day
being told i would here in two weeks if anything was found, thankfully nothing had been but then i still have no answers to why
the abcess appeared.
i also recieved a letter from my surgeon asking for details off my condition to put to the disability department and on the letter
it says that this could be a life time chronic illness which had ever been meantioned to me and to find out like that was very
upsetting. He also said that i would be able to live with this condition no problem, i would just have to wear a towel.
I am now at point where i have asked to be change to a new hospital who have more knowledge and can try explain everything that
has gone on. I have also been told there is major operation i can have which i know nothing about and hoping there is as im only
33 and don't want to live with this for rest of my life. The downside is i know need to wait for 10 weeks to see them, everything
is such a long wait.
This had been such a big mess from day one, i miss everything in life that i not able to do anymore. I miss swimming with my
daughter, running, walking and day to day thinks. I've put on 8lb in weight and cant afford new wardrobe. I've had 6 infection
since june and at moment the drain is giving me a lot of trouble and i being woke from my sleep with pain and my wound is bleeding
and now waiting to find out what is cause this.
