Differences between temporary and permanent ileostomies?

This question is mainly for curiosity's sake. I've heard it said time and time again that permanent ileostomies are much easier to manage than their temporary counterpart - why is this? What differences are there?

I am having a three step j-pouch procedure; I'm between the first and second surgeries right now, so I have an end ileo at the moment, but will have a loop ileo after the second surgery. When people say that permanent ones are better than temporary, do they just mean that end ileos are better than loop ileos? Or would a permanent ileostomy be very different from what I have now?

a loop ileo is when they pull out a loop of the small intestine, cut it like in half but not all the way and leave the two edges of the intestine out on the abdomen. an end ileo is when they cut the loop all the way and pull out only one edge of the small intestine. the only reason an end ileo is easier to take care of is b/c with end ileos they can pull it out more than they can with loop ileos. with loop ileos they are limited on how much they can pull it out, so loop ileos usually don't stick out enough and even tend to rectact more than end ileos.

i hope my explanation was clear, but anyway, you can google loop ileostomy, there are some illustrations on the net that describe it perfectly. only after i saw the illustrations i was then able to understand what it's all about.

sorry, but no, havn't got that far with my research. guess b/c i didn't go through that 3 step process, so i just leared about my own situation only. but i think there are some ppl here that know, hope they pop in here to answer.
