What products are recommended to treat/prevent butt burn right after take down?

Any sort of barrier cream. The hospital may give you something but penaten (for baby diaper rash) works great. My son found that the best thing was not using toilet paper but premoistened, flushable wipes.....made a big difference. And you have to use the barrier cream after EVERY trip to the washroom...a bit of a pain but it helps a lot.

A J-poucher that we got a lot of preliminary info from (he has had his for 23 years) uses Desitin. As it turns out hubby ended up with the permanent ileostomy but that is what he would have been trying.

Using wipes as suggested also. There are flushable ones you can also buy.

Not everyone can or wants to have a bidet or have their toilets outfitted with a special set up to wash and dry the rear area but if it is affordable and possible, pouchers who have them have raved about them.

The barrier cream is needed to be used each time to keep you comfortable from what we were told too.

For the past 8 weeks that I've had my pouch... all I've used is flushable wipes and this cream a couple times a day... no complaints, living a 100% normal life and loving it... work all day for 6 days a week without a problem

I used Calmoseptine pretty regularly right after surgery and am down to only when the BB gets bad now. I also used flushable wipes (read the packages - most are not flushable). Others have used Ilex (+ vaseline), bidets, sitz baths, straight zinc oxide, any baby protection.
