Wow, it seems like you just had your first surgery - but probably not to you! I don't remember a lot about after takedown but I wasn't in hardly any pain at all. One thing I will tell you is to consider buying some non-stick gauze pad coverings to use over the spot where your stoma used to be. I'm guessing your doctor will leave yours open? I think they are stitched up somewhere beneath. At the CC they just used normal gauze pads and when they pulled those puppies off to change them it was pretty painful. You can buy these non-stick pads at Walgreens for like $5 and I wished I had taken some with me to the hospital for them to use there. You'll probably start out with broth and those type foods. If you take it too fast you'll end up throwing up - not fun! On the day I left the hospital I think I had chicken for lunch and I remember packing my chocolate chip cookies for the ride home

Yeah, you'll have to go to the bathroom a lot. Hopefully, you will not have a roomate who does too because that's what happened to me and it seemed like one of us was always waiting to get in there. I bought some Poise pads before my last surgery - couldn't bring myself to buy diapers. I think I wore them for a couple of weeks, mainly at night. Why I bought the jumbo pack I'll never know.
That stinks that you have to do a prep. I didn't have to and I remember my husband and I went out the night before for a really good meal. Every doctor is different though. You'll have no problem walking and most things will probably feel like a breeze compared to your first surgery. It does take a while, though, to get used to the new plumbing. I second the Calmoseptine - which you can buy at Walgreens - and soft toilet paper will be a big plus. You know I love my bidet seat and it might be something for you to consider down the road - maybe a nice Mother's Day present?? Good luck and let us know how it goes.
