Do any of you change your wafer every day? UC wife, if I read your post correctly it sounds like your husband changes his appliance daily after his shower. I know this sounds gross but i have found i can only shower every 4 days (I just wash up in between those days) because when I shower and then take off my wafer there is always water in my belly-button! So:

1. Is it ok to change the appliance daily?

2. Does anyone else find that they get water under their wafer when they shower?

@Gilda I wouldn't change it every day; I would think the skin would get irritated from having the pouch pulled off so often. I wrap my belly in Glad Press'n Seal before I shower to keep the appliance dry! Works like a charm.

elddi: I use Glad Press n Seal too and you're right it does work well. In fact somebody on this site recommended it and that's how I got started.

hi all, i had the same query/ problem with wafer/ bag gettin wet during shower - i am using a simple solution -- i use a piece of plastic just big enough to cover the bag & i attach it with a length of medic tape all across the top edge & a little tab of tape at each side to keep in place (maybe 10 inches of tape used each time) - it works a treat - it takes a minute to put on, keeps the wafer & entire bag dry so no drying needed & i can shower every day (maybe twice even) while changing the bag every few days. before i tried it i thought using medic tape on & off every day would hurt my skin but in fact its on for such a short time it doesnt stick too hard & is ok.

ps i know that my stoma nurse changes his bag each day after showering - he says its not a problem for him - but i would rather not to change every day but to give my skin a break with longer periods between changes

Hubby was not showering every single day - didn't need to- retired and not working - still in the house quite a bit - since he was totally sewn up in the rear area there is not that issue pertaining to hygeine - he uses the sure seals now which covers the entire wafer and is waterproof so a shower if the wafer does not need changing is ok. Uses a 2 piece system so would put on a new pouch/pouches in between wafer changing.

However due to leaking these past 2 weeks he is changing every other day basically. Just tried a new wafer tonight and hope he has better luck with that.
