constipation surgery of removing the large intestine

I am a chinese women living in calgary, I issued the ticket to see the colorectal surgery doctor in Hong Kong on June 15, because I have severe constipation, so I want to remove the large intestine.

I heard many feedback they are OK, but I also heard some die, and someone did 8 times surgery. I also heard that some people heard from the doctor that they don't need a bag, but end up they need a bag. Does anyone have complication after removing the large intestine, would you mind share your experience with me.

I need your information to decide whether I need the surgery.I really couldn't stand for the severe constipation, always over a month no poop, and the laxative alwasys not working but I am very scared about the surgery. Most of the doctor in Hong Kong also not suggesting the surgery, they said is very high risk ....etc.

First of all has your problem been diagnose, Is removing your large intestine your diagnosis or the doctor's? You can struggle or suffer if removing the large intestine does not work, especially if you need surgery again. As esoR

posted an Ileostomy is very manageable once you adapt to it and the stress your body has suffered will be relieved.

As Rock said, you need a diagnosis. To see if your colon is the problem (colonic inertia means your colon does not work) you have to do a sitzmark test. That means you swallow a pill with tiny markers in it and every few days you get an xray to see how fast (or how slow) they are going through your small intestine and your colon. If they end up all spread out and not moving too fast in your colon, then you have a colon that does not work well.

If the markers are all down near your rectum, I think it means your constipation issue is called outlet obstruction, meaning poop travels along OK through your colon, but then cannot get out. Either way, you need to find out.

Keep asking. You need a lot of tests. If anyone want to operate without sitzmark test, defecogram, pudental nerve test, and anorectal manometry and balloon expulsion test, then you are not dealing with the right doc. Those are the tests you need. You need to move on this as you have been suffering for a really long time. Any surgery can create an adhesion. BUT if done laporoscopically especially with a spray adhesion barrier, then you will likely not be bothered by adhesions. Plus, you can get adhesions that are asymptomatic. That means they do not cause pain or obstruction. Usually a first and only surgery will not give you bothersome type adhesions as long as the surgery is done well and not super extensive. Thanks for your opinion, I will go back to Hong Kong on June 15, then I will find the doctor to do the test. Do you know the mortality rate of this surgery is ?
I am still very scared about the surgery and worry about the pain after surgery !

I already issued the ticket to Hong Kong on June 15 to see the doctor, probably I will go for for surgery. One bad new is, my sister have her breast cancer come back and spead over her body. I also want to see her in Hong Kong. Last night I take the laxative, but still not work.

I won't tell my brother I will go for the surgery, otherwise he will get mad with me. I hope this time I make the right decision.
