Hi everyone I'm new.

I had my colon removed 14 days ago and I have a ileostomy. The Doctor says it's normal to pass mucous rectally, but it's very very painful. I might as well be flared up again with UC. Either way I'm on the toliet again in pain. Will this go away soon? Also stool passing threw my stoma hurts and stings, I removed my flange thinking it was leaking but everything looks"normal". Anyone have any feed back.

I am having a similar experience, it doesnt often make me need to go to the loo as it simply comes out of its own accord and I constantly need to wear a big pad. I don't get pain like you other than the liquid seems to be so 'hot' that it has really irritated my skin. I also mainly get clear fluid coming out and some mucous.

Thanks for the info, how often would you say your leaking, and how many days after surgery did it start?

You are just 14 days past surgery?  You should probably give a little more time with the rear area (though, I'm not sure what type of surgery you had...)

I would be more concerned with your stoma......at your last change, was your skin irritated (eg, red)?

Otherwise, I've had pains around my stoma I thought were skin/leak related, however, my home health nurse took a look and said my skin was fine....so, the pain is coming from the cut/wound/stiches/etc. around the stoma as gas/stool moves through.....also, how does your stoma look?  Nice and bright pink?  well moistened?

I leak constantly, as in most of the time 24/7. Some days/nights are worse than others. I don't remember much of the day after surgery but I know from then on it was constant, it was like a tap being turned on and all this fluid coming out, the nurses were constantly changing my bedding. I leak out of the stoma too, and I know that some mucous out of there is normal but its increased majorly the past few days.

     I'm almost 11 months post op and STILL have mucus coming out the anus.  My anus was not sewn closed.  The other day I was bleeding from the vagina.  This started about a month post op and happens occasionally.  Not happy about it as I am 20 years past menopause.  I was checked out by my gyn doctor....PAP smear, transvaginal ultrasound...everything ok from that.  My surgeon said he thought it could all be from the surgery, but 11 months???  I still have some discomfort inside the anus too.  Tired of going back to the surgeon, as I have been back to him several times already.  about a month post op he had to drain a hematoma inside the anus...not comfortable shocked .  Guess if it is still bothersome I'll just have to go back again.  I thought I had external hemorrhoids but he said they are skin flaps rolleyes .  Ever hear of that?

I had a subtotal colectomy 2 weeks ago. The pain in my rectum has gotten worse, and now there's alot of blood. Seeing the surgeon tomorow. I think they maybe took me off the pred to soon? Oh and my skin around the stoma was red. I've made my new flange hole smaller but it still stings. Nurse is coming in a couple days to the house. Hope I can keep my rectum would like to have j-pouch but with some of these stories now I'm not so sure. Really would like to feel good soon I have a 1year old who needs me in good shape. Keeping my fingers/toes crossed for good news.

saw the surgeon, he says it's normal. relieved i guess?

Normal is good.... but sounds unpleasant.

Have you tried an eakin seal around your stoma? You put it on under the wafer, and it protects the skin around the stoma. Very big help for that kind of irritation.

Well it wasn't normal, I was in the hospital via ambulance. Had the home nurse visit me at 9am she said stiches around stoma look "normal" theres that word again. 10am husband calling 911 I'm on the floor screaming in pain. Long story short one of my stiches had to be removed was starting to infect my stoma. I thought it was acid stool but it was the stiches. Was sent home on serious morphine which made me puke all night . But I'm feeling 100% today.:) Thinking about filing complaint with hospital. Doctor removed my bag impropery, left me and my bed covered in watery stool with no bag on for 1\2 hour. Stoma nurses came down thank god and fixed me up.

Sorry to hear all that, sounds like a very unpleasant experience.

Have you already got your internal pouch all set up inside?! I'm waiting for my second op in about 3 months, I had the stoma and internal pouch made in the same surgery 5 weeks ago, so the next op for me will be to hopefully get rid of the stoma and reconnect everything.

no, no pouch yet, 2 more surgery's to go. I was told meds weren't working and needed emergency surgery. I had surgery that night!
I have to wait 6 to 8 months and that sucks. oh well, let me know how everything goes.

Hi sorry to hear about that, sounds pretty nasty, but glad to hear that at least its sorted now. Yeah my surgery was an emergency one too, am going in to see my surgeon tomorrow about arranging a date for second op which will hopefully be in the near future. had my first surgery just before christmas.

The waiting isnt too bad, I was wrecked when I had my first surgery after a long serious flare up of UC so have spent the time since recovering 20kg (44lb) of weight, lots of food :) So long as your not sitting around doing nothing its grand,try to enjoy the time off and lack of daily meds, and as always keep on walking.

wow 44lbs, I lost 25lbs, I don't really want to gain all that weight back. Really happy to lose all the baby weight (not in those circumstances) but happy none the less. Confused about diet however, nurse told me to eat junk, what are you eating. I'm living off mr.noodle and KD. I'm guessing maybe your from Ireland?, so your probably not eating KD. Gaining weight really fast.
