missing period during surgery months, normal, not normal?

Was wondering if this is a common side effect. During my last flare up that lasted 2 months I basically missed my period. A little spoting for one day. I had my surgery and that same month no period. I'm a month after surgery and no period again. I figure because I lost so much blood during flare ups it made sense. But now I feel great and no period. I'm 28 and want to have more children kinda scared confused .

don't know much about this subject, but i do know that it happens to lots of women. a friend of mine that had UC and a proctocolectomy lost her period for more than 6 mons post op. we were at the same hosp and the stoma nurse said that it happens a lot.

not sure what you're supposed to do, but i'd guess you should pay a visit to your gyn. i'm sure it will work out. and maybe someone who knows more will chime in soon with more info.

I was over a month late after surgery, then had the heaviest period of my life after that. I am on coumadin from a blood clot, though, so that was part of it. Then next one came on time and wasn't as bad. I'm older, so we thought (I actually hoped) it might be menopause, but I did talk to my surgeon about it, and I think that up to 6 months late is no concern at all..... surgery messes up a lot of things for a while, but after a while your energy goes back to regular things.

It was kind of scary, though.

Hi.

I had missed periods after my surgery also.

On February 4th this year, I had a temporary ileostomy placed on me.

Two weeks after the surgery I had spotting but after that, I didn't have a period for two month's.

My ileostomy was reversed on April 6th & 3 weeks after this surgery, I had a mentrual cycle again.  I asked my doctor about the missed periods & she said this is due to chemical changes occuring in your body. My doctor also said majority of women who have surgeries go through this.

It's totally normal to miss your period when your sick and after surgery. Don't worry, it will soon be back, and then you'll wonder why you ever missed it! wink

I also always used to miss periods with flares, and I've missed several since surgery too. I think when the body is healing it tries to retain all the blood it can!
