Takedown surgery tomorrow and would love some post-op feedback!

Hello guyS I am having my takedown surgery tomorrow and would love some feedback on life after with the pouch... i am extremely anxious about how life will go and how much i will be using the bathroom and so on!

Good luck tomorrow!!!!! My daughter is 5 months post-op. Doing great. She was only going aroung six times a day at first. Now anywhere from 4-6 times . No urgency. Maybe gets up once at night. If any it also depends on what she eats and how late she eats it. Their are days when she can't remember how many times she has gone through out the day. Doesn't have any butt burn.

Hi! I just had my take down and j pouch creation in one. I was feeling pretty mobile in the hospital compared to my first surgery! I started out going 19 times a day the first couple days then it quickly went to about 12 and now its less than that. If I didn't have to deal with this wound that opened up, I'd be feeling pretty up to anything already! I haven't had any noticable problems with any of the foods I've eaten. It's great!

Hi Christy!

I was excited and anxious about take down and it all turned out really well. The amount of times you go to the bathroom really varies by person. You will probably be going about 10-15x a day at first but that should lesson over the next few weeks. The good thing is there isn't any urgency...atleast I didn't have any. After about 3 weeks I was down to 6x a day and now I average about 4x a day and I usually have to get up once at night.

Just go slow with food at first and gradually add things each day. Best wishes!

Congrats and wishing you best of luck tomorrow and the days following. I'm awaiting my reversal, so all I can say is hope all goes well and take things slow. Walk alot, eat slow, take your time and listen to your body. I've read some remarkable stories here, and I'm sure yours will be too!!!

It's been about 10 months since my takedown and I'm doing really well. I had one bout of pouchitis which I got under control quickly with an antibiotic. The early weeks can be a little challenging because it takes a while to get used to everything. There is a learning curve with trying to figure out how to pass gas, as well. A lot of people can't do it while standing up or something more than gas will come out :) I've harped on this before but the best thing I every did post-j-pouch was to buy a bidet seat attachment for my toilet. No irritation or burning anymore - it's awesome and you feel so clean. I have absolutely no idea how many times I go a day because with the bidet quickly cleans you off and with one quick wipe you're done. Good luck!

I hope everything went well with your reversal Christy, sorry I'm late.
I had my reversal back in April this year & everything seems fine so far. My BM's are still adjusting but it's better than in the beginning. Wish you well with your recovery.

Christy, although I haven't had the takedown surgery; I just wanted to say good luck.  Just take it easy at first.  I had a sub-total colectomy 5 years ago.  At first I was going about 20 times a day.  After about 2 months I was down to 5-6 times of day.  However I still had active u/c at the time.  The urgency went away until about 6 months ago, then I was getting sick again.  Now have a permanet ileostomy and feeling so good!
