Colon inertia part 2

Kyle, i'm sorry to hear the erthromycin made you so sick :( gosh i hate meds. i have UTI again. it's my 4th since the ileo op and this time it's the worst of those i had so far. started with low fever friday night, chills, then saturday night started to have real bad cramping in my lower abd, my pereneum area felt like on fire and with horrible pressuer and pain. then sunday morning a totally bloody urine. took it to the lab (last UTI the dr gave me the referal and the cup, so if it happens againg, to go straight to the lab, so i did). then at 10 pm my dr called me to say i have a real bad UTI worst than ever. i'm now loaded with antibiotics. this UTI issue is starting to stress me, i don't want to develope chronic unary problems :(

Kyle, Rosemary gave you a great way to deal with that old dr who didn't believe you (SO making me angree >:( i think you should do exactly as she offered and if he still treats you the same way, then he's not worth your energy!

CT, welcome! i never had a small bowel follow through test, and that's too bad, cuz it seems i do have a very slow small bowel. but i'm managing it great with the help of prune juice and fresh squeezed pear juice (has the same laxative affect on me). but i have an ileostomy and only this way i can manage. after my colectomy things didn't work and nothing helped. i'm happy with the bag and glad there was still a way out for me :)

if you're not sure about the results of the sitz test, then you can always repeat it. you did quit all laxatives prior to the test and during, right? i wish you best of luck and feel free to ask any questions.

I tried taking the erthromycin a few years ago and had the same problem with it. I couldn't take it more than a few days. I was miserable. The only real issue I've had with gastroparesis is acid reflux. My surgeon told me that alot of people with colon inertia have issues in their entire digestive system. It sure seems like so many of us have alot of the same problems. I'm so sorry the miralax hasn't worked for you; I've been so lucky that it's helped me. Before my colectomy all it did was bloat me.

I hope you can find some help. I'm going to my GI on Thursday to see if he can come up with anything else for my acid reflux. I take protonix and pepcid daily, but still have reflux.

I was 54 when I had surgery, but I had suffered from CI since I was about 20. I wish I had not waited so long for surgery. It was a horrible way to live, and even though surgery didn't make things perfect, it's so much better than before. People who have never suffered with this don't have a clue. No one wants to have their colon removed "just because"...
