Cleaning Stoma?

Jelly, for your original question, my stoma nurse explained that the stoma is like a new "rectum" which usually has some poop in it. Poop on a stoma will not harm it. Trying to rinse it off up through the bag may loosen the seal on your appliance. When you change your appliance you can gently wipe the poop off the stoma. I use wet Qtips very gently. Rosemary

How are you today? I hope better...where do you go to the dr. and hospital? I go to Jackson.

I have a nasty skin irritation, not real sure how to treat it. Leaking bag is coming off way too frequently. Any ideas would be appreciated. I just had my colectomy, ileostomy, hysterectomy, AND the diagnosis of ovarian cancer on March 25th of this year. Alot to get in one day!

We'll, I'm back in the hospital. They believe I got dehydrated. They found air pockets on my CT scan, but he thinks it's scar tissue he made for the J pouch from surgery. I'm already feeling much better though!
