something that ostomy nurse said doesnt make sense..

I had 3 cups of caffeine coffee this a.m. as I just HAD To wake up and deal with a lot of business and cleaning, etc as company is coming. BIG mistake. BUT, this too shall pass....yes pun intended.

With the number of times I am empyting this a.m. I would keep the close ended bag people in business for a LONG time. I could even buy stock in the company. Drainables essential for ileostomates.

Had the visit with the new Ostomy nurse and we loved her! She was so knowledgeable and gave us peace of mind. She said my hubby's stoma was beautiful and the surgeon did an excellent job! Haha that's funny but nice to hear.

She gave us some good tips and is ordering us a whole bunch of samples. We already got a huge box of supplies that our hospital ordered for us too.

Does anyone use bags with filters? Yay or nay?

Glad to hear that the nurse knew her business...makes a world of difference.  

I don't like the bags with filters.  They don't work IMHO, anyway.   The WOCN told me that with an ileostomy you should not use them???  At any rate, I was pancaking with the filters, as they created a vacuum right over my stoma and I was leaking under the wafer. 

Since putting the stickers on the filtered bags or using bags without filters I have had better luck.   Although, I also changed to convex wafers and whole eakin seals simultaneously. 

Crohnie- what are the stickers for? And how do you use them?

Yes, that was me with the duct tape! The coloplast bags come with stickers too, but I only use them when taking a bath (which, sigh, I haven't been able to do since my recent surgery). That filter is in the back, so I haven't had any trouble with it, other than that it doesn't work at all. I'm sure the duct tape would work fine to cover a filter, don't see why not....

I'm going to have to try that!! Are the bags small or large? Or can you get a choice? I use Holllister, do they have them?
