reversal

hi im new to this so not sure if anyone can give me any advise!    i am due to have my ileostomy reversed at the end of january and am wondering if anyone can tell me what its like afterwards??....

...i was dignosed with colitis in march 2010 and had the operation to give me the pouch but i have always been very self consious about it... i dont let it hold me back anymore in the tings i do but i dont feel as though i can still do the thing i did before i was dignosed with UC.

I have heard bad stories about reversals but i want to give it ago as i am only 21 and think i will reget it if i dont. if anyone has any advise please let me know!! so i have a better idea of what to expect!!

yes i had the j-pouch made in may this year and have been watinging for it to heal properly then got put on the waiting list x

Good Luck...at your age and the fact that you are a good candidate for the j-pouch do a lot of up front research so you will have a good idea of what to expect while adjusting.

My husband's surgery last year we were both hoping that he would have a shot at the j-pouch but it wasn't meant to be for a lot of good reasons. We were very prepared for the ileostomy even though we were hoping it was to be a short duration and also prepared for the j-pouch as well.

The j-pouch org. we got a lot of very insightful info from and were mentored by a gentleman who was so helpful. You will also be able to get some good assistance by a few on this board too.

Honestly in our case my husband and I have adjusted fine (I am sure our age has something to do with this too) and to be out of pain and back enjoying life is wonderful.

My daughter who is 16, had her take-down surgery april of 2011. Two weeks later, she was back helping with her highschool softball team. My daughter eats anything she wants. She does notice somethings goes right through her. But the pain and the urgency isn't their anymore. Just remember you just have to keep drinking. The surgery was the best thing for my daughter. She is very happy with her j-pouch.

Other then vsl#3 and some vitamins because her counts were low. But nothing like she was on before. (only when she remembers to take them). She doesn't even have to take any immodium. She goes anywhere between 4-6 times a day. Sometimes not even that much. Once before she goes to school and once at school. So being at school doesn't bother her.

Its a probiotic. She takes it in pill form. She didn't like the powder that is vsl ds. That is usually covered by insurance. The pills arent. It is expensive.
