Rectal Stump Removal

Hi again...I am needing to have rectal stump removed and wanted to know how long I might expect to be out of work...with my colectomy I was out of work for a little over three weeks (including the time I was hospitalized)
I believe I was told I would be in the hospital for just a few days with the stump removal but haven't spoken with the surgeon yet for more specific information

Rectal stump removal is also known as a Proctectomy. They have to use an open abdomen approach rather than laparoscopic, so the healing time is lengthened. I took 8 weeks off work but extended it to 10 because my job involves heavy lifting. Don't rush back to work is my advice, allow time to heal inside and out.

I think my Dr said 3 months, but I am not 100% sure.

Hmmm....interesting. I was told the surgeon would be able to remove the stump from the rear...I will definitely have to find out about this

I had my rectum out in a lapro surgery -- it was at the same time I had my colon out. I know my colon came out through the hole that became my stoma.... not sure whether my rectum came out that way too or from the back.

I had my rectum removed with everything else. It sure was a tougher recovery than I could have imagined, BUT I was also very sick, weak and thin going in.

I am now 9 weeks post op and this is my fourth week back at work. The first week was tough, and I am still not 100%, but I get better and better each day. I am definitely better now than I was at work right before my two-week hospitalization (before I even had the surgery).
