nurse rom hell!!!!

my stoma nurse came yesterday and i swar she went to school with nurse hatchet!!!!  she went so fast and actually  seemed mad that i had so many questions. anyway i've been feeling kind of wierd and was putting it down to anxiety but the doc just came in and said ny inection  the reason i had surgery in the first place is in my blood steam and they are trasfering me to the hospital in the next city, i am scared only because my kids already have to drive 45 minutes i i want them to come to bay its goingt to take twice as long and i won't let them. thanks for letting me vent, oh by the way i have learned more about stomas and how to care for them here then anything they tell me.  rose mad mad

When you get to your new hospital, request to meet with a stoma nurse. If the one they send isn't helpful, then ask for a new one. Sometimes you have to be the squeaky wheel, unfortunately. I know the transfer seems scary, but if it gets you healthy again it will be worth it. Hang in there, dear!

Are you getting transferred to a teaching hospital? That can make a huge difference. If you're having anything out of the ordinary, they are more likely to have seen it before. I understand being upset about being further from your kids, but you also need to get the best care you can now -- that can make the whole process shorter in the end.

I hope the infection goes away soon and you start feeling better.

Definitely ask to talk to a stoma nurse asap, and as Pancakes said, ask again if you have trouble w/the one you see. Hopefully you'll get a better one.

Thanks for the sites i will check them out, the hospital i am going to ia a teaching hosp i know its huge. my problem is i am not good at being assertive in when i have the right. i guess mostly being alone is what is scaring me then again everything scares me!!!!!     thanks again meds are really kicking in,      Rose

Do you have anyone else who can help advocate for you? A friend or family member? It's really hard to advocate for yourself when you're sick and drugged.

Also if you get a good nurse, see if he or she can help you. They can make a huge difference. Some luck of the draw there, but if you get one you really like talk about your concerns and see where it goes.

What you're going through is scary, just no way around that. But you can do scary things, really you can.

It sounds like you're where you need to be. Hope the meds help.

There should also be someone like a social worker or services coordinator at the new hospital who might be able to help line things up for you that you need. You might ask to speak to someone like that when you get there. I know it is hard, but this is one time where it doesn't pay to be shy....you have to ask for what you need and keep asking until you get it.

Ah! I have the answer for you. If you don't get the help you need, call the patient advocate. THey report direct to the CEO and if any nurse or Doc gets spoken to by the patient advocate then they react favorably immediately. As their next step is to get reported to the CEO. Every hospital has a patient advocate dept. Rosemary

Is it really true that you are pain free from having the ileostomie?????
