The first was yesterday and was two semi firm little things. But i woke in the night toy own gurglings and i know everyone says that after take down you go in the hospital bed when sleeping. It took a long time to get cleaned up and then it hsppened again. The last two times i could recognize the feeling. (differrnt than normal having to poo feeling) and got on the toilet so it was more controlled. Getting clean is still a big production. Dont know where it comes from because i havent eazen since sunday. Am exhausted from little sleep but feeling generally better.

I'm very happy for you! It must be quite amazing to go "normally" again after almost a year. I'm sure you're very tired though, so get lots of rest. Maybe they'll let you eat something today!!

I have had to go 4 or5 times inthelast 4 hours. Liquid.
Got a yoghurt for breakfast. I wozld do anything to avoid gas pains but havent had any yet.
It is funny but with the bag it didnt matter what i ate or when because all i had to do was empty the bag - passive pooing. Now i have to do the work of getting to the toilet on time and cleaning really needs attention.
Recovery in general after take down is much faster thsn the other two.

Ah man, cleaning?! That sounds like a chore! I guess that's the sacrifice right?

I'll be going through exactly the same as you in 13 days. Really pleased about the fact you've got no gas pains, that's really good news. Let's hope that carries on.

How are you feeling? Still a bit out of it from the drugs or are you feeling better?

Kind of like a rebirth -- starting like a baby and going all over the place..... hope your bowels "grow up" quickly.

After my surgery I had the catheter for a few days, and when it got taken out, I sort of resented having to do any work at all to go to the bathroom either way.... know what you mean about passive pooing..... got to be some perks to a bag!

Yes. And I'm taken down so its too late to change mymind.
Ok so 2nd day sfter take down and the last pain med was midnight. Exactly 14 hours ago and I have no pain. Really not a big deal. Surgeon pulled the drainage tube out and said if i want can leave tomorrow.
But I am worried because since my last post i've gone 5 or 6 more times just for tiny amounts and not including the potato- carrot soup i had for lunxh. And it begins with leakage. I am not under control. Using huge hospital pads. Afraid it will stay like this.

Btw i started feeling really better when the drugs stopped. And i dont take well to anaesthesia in general so their was some headaches and nausea but its gone now.

Good I'm glad you're feeling better. No pain? Wow you're doing so well!

Don't worry about the leakage yet, you're only 2 days in! I'm sure most people have the same thing to begin with. Your bowels have only just come back 'online' so it'll probably take a little while to settle. Maybe spend a little longer on the toilet, it might mean less trips?

Anyway it all sounds good to me so far. What was the drain they took out by the way? It wasn't a pelvic drain was it?

I had one of those after my 2nd op and it was the most painful thing I've ever experienced when they took that out!

Dont worry, it was a thinnish tube in the wound after the last stitch. He said take a deep breadth and i did and he had it out. The tube with the other op was thicker and it felt weird when they took it out.
I really hope things change to less frequent, firmer and more control. Oh the noise is there but not every time and not so loud.
Bothers me that i start leaking when its just a tiny amount thats there. Normall y potatoes thicken things but the soup did not change things. Got to run ......

Anytime someone mentions leakage I immediately think of the kegal exercises. They work. After my first surgery I had very bad leakage from the jpouch. Both my WOCN nurse and my surgeon told me to do kegals. So I started doing 5 sets of 10 eight times a day. And whadda know, all that stuff started staying in.

Plus it is only your 2nd day. Have to stay positive cause I'm also going for my takedown on the 18th, lol.

How can you be having leakage from you jpouch before take down?
Are you saying you are doing 8 times 50 kegels? I heard ten times ten or five-six times ten

Intestines naturally produce mucus. Plus it was also healing from where my surgeon stitched it together. And since I had a loop ileo sometimes output from the stoma can go into the intestine that leads down to the jpouch.

I think I get my sets and reps mixed up. I tried to do at least 50 kegals throughout the day. Usually in groups of 5 or so (hold for 10-20 seconds, relax for 10-20 seconds). Which worked out to be roughly eight times a day.

I also stopped leaking mucous after doing lots of kegels. I think this leaking at the beginning after take down is normal. What is reall annoying is that i have to get to the toilet for such tiny amounts. Now i have to think in terms of getting rid of a bowl of potato soup tablespoon by tablespoon, just the way i ate it.

Sounds like you are doing really well overall. I'm sure in the beginning it is a chore and a challenge but as long as you have a good pouch that is working the other stuff will fall into place and subside. Good for you!!! Really happy to hear it. Get the rest you need too if you have family assistance.

I'm 6 weeks post takedown and i went through the same experience. The first two weeks i had accidents but i don't have them anymore. While i do have some leakage though it has slowly gotten better. i see progress which helps. :)

Congrats! You've made it through and now it's just a matter of recovery. Make the most of your time off and try to give your body a break. It's only going to get better. Keep us posted.
