Hi All, I hope everyone is doing well. I have not posted in a long time but I still check the boards often to keep up with that is going on.

It has now been about 5 months since I had my total colectomy. I still get bloated after eating but it isn't as bad as before, and it lessens over the period of a few hours after eating, which never happened before. I take milk of magnesia every night and it works. I feel GREAT during the day.

I am wearing clothes I love, I have a job interview next week (wish me luck!) and I am going to my best friend's wedding this month...and I am bringing a date!!

I feel so lucky to have had this surgery, I would never have been able to do any of these things before. Although I still have to plan a little bit and make sure I eat very small amounts, life is MUCH easier.

I want to thank everyone on here for their help so far, I could not have made it through all of this without ALL of you.

Great to hear from you, with a lot of good news. Glad you're feeling great a lot of the time, liking your clothes, going to a wedding with a date, etc.

Good luck on the job interview! Keep us posted if you have a chance.

Alibee, I joined this forum today as I was reading back through all the posts between you and Tom about your disease.

I am beyond happy that everything worked out for you. I was last reading that you were having such problems and than I found this thread and you have had the OP and recovered successfully.

I like you had have suffered from long term constipation which seems to be progressing as I get older (I am 24 too.) It is no were near the extent of what you went through as I can still achieve bowel motions on just osmotic laxatives, however a large portion of my life is spent managing it and I just feel like I don't really have a life because of it.

Stories like yours are inspirational from someone who has considered giving up on life (not seriously, I love life, but its nice to know there are options to allow me to live it). I wish you all the best in your new life!

Thank you so much for your post. I am so glad my posts can help someone else see the light at the end of the tunnel. I still have my days when I don't feel perfect, but overall I feel MUCH better. I am dating, interviewing for jobs, going out to dinners, being active...all the things I could not do before because I felt terrible.

I know exactly what you mean when you say that a large portion of your life is spent managing your bowels. That is word-for-word how I felt too. My life still revolved around my bowels, but in a different (and much easier to live with) way.

Have you had any tests or anything done to see what exactly the issue is?

Just don't give up. If you feel like your life is revolving around this, find a doctor who will listen to you and get some help. That is exactly what I did. Please keep me posted on how things are going for you!

Id love to hear more about your story if you wanted to share it with me (I understand its a bit of a weird thing to ask on a forum for someone you barely know, but its just great to hear from someone who has come out the other end of the tunnel, so to speak)
