I'm so sorry that the Crohn's has reared its ugly head again!
I had Crohn's in my large intestine and rectum, too, and having a proctocolectomy was the best thing I've ever done for my health. My surgery was 6 years ago and I've been disease-free ever since. So, there's hope that you'll soon be disease-free, too!
My surgeon never said anything about
the possibility of being infertile after having my rectum removed. I still had periods after surgery (went through menopause last year), which makes me think that I could have gotten pregnant if my husband and I had wanted to. I suppose they have to expose all possible side effects, just to protect themselves.
Since the pain meds made you sick after your last surgery, I wonder if an epidural would be a better post-op pain relief option for you? Some people here have had that form of pain relief and can hopefully weigh in on how it worked for them.
Please keep us posted on when your surgery will be and feel free to ask any questions you may have about
it.
