I've been having an issue with my two-piece Hollister system for about a yearl now and am wondering if anyone else has this complaint. Suddenly, it seems like the "velcro" on the tail loses it's tight seal after one day. I used to be able to wear a pouch for 2-3 days but no more. They just don't seem to seal as tight as they did previously no matter how carefully I seal them. I've been using this system for 6 years now and it's only in the last year that this has been a problem. I really think Hollister has a problem with quality control but would like to know if anyone else is having the same issue.

I don't use hollister myself, but a lot of people have posted about this issue before (you can search) and some people were contacting hollister.... sorry, must be very upsetting.

Do you mean that the velco won't stick, or that there is a tiny bit of leaking after a day or so? I find that my pouch tail gets a bit "wet" after about a day. Not sure why. I use a piece of toilet paper to wrap over the tail to catch the bit of leakage. That way, I can continue to wear it for multiple days.

mom2panda: that's exactly what I mean AND it seams like the velcro just doesn't seal as tightly as the first day. I know some people prefer to change their pouches daily but I wasn't having an issue with odor, gas or anything so I was happily using them for 2-3 days before changing. Luckily I have good insurance and they have yet to question my increased usage, but it's starting to aggravate me now. Thanks for your suggestion.

I had the Hollister bags and I never really had any trouble with the velcro. The one thing I did have trouble with is ever since they changed to the "new" velcro closures (the ones with the clear plastic flap that would fold over to close and they would have a slight concave to it) they would always cause the plastic at the creases to get holes in it. This would happen on the corners of the plastic strips near the edge of the bag on the velcro part.

I'll try to upload a picture later of what I'm talking about since I have some extra bags left from my takedown that I can mark on.

i only used hollister and never had a problem...though it seems like trying to get it in teh same groove worked for the few times that it wouldnt "click" together as well....also, just squeezing harder, and starting in teh middle. i wish i could explain better, because there were tricks i did use for when it wasnt going together well...............eh .probably doesnt help. sorry.

once they changed to the new improved pouch i didn't even bother, i had heard lots of bad things about them, and while messing with 3 of them, just to see how they worked, i tore the whole closure system off! not being forceful, just regular opening and closing. I also read about a lot of people having the problem you are having though. putting a piece of tp right inside the opening will help that.

i also have a 2 piece hollister system and the velcro closure i do not have any issues with, BUT i do have an issue with the inside of the base plate. the inner / insde ring of sticky plastic or rubber or whatever that is closest to my stoma gets all gummy and falls apart after 2 days. i can peel it off when i clean it. then there is more skin showing which turns red cuz my poos are touching it.
whats up with that?
am i the only one with that issue? did what i wrote make any sense?

i have the concave or convex base plate / flange for some reason.
i don't even know why the nurse gave me those ones cuz my stoma sticks up just fine.

Sounds like you are cutting the hole too big.

i just got back from my appt with the stoma therapy nurse and she changed my whole setup. my stoma has shrunk a lot since the surgery last month.
and the hollister bags with the convex flange where just too bulky and big and i guess apparently i didn't even need a convex base plate!

so now i have a flat base plate that is much smaller and a midi sized bag that sits nice and flat and the bottom doesn't rub on my thigh!

wow!!! it is so much nicer now. i don't even notice that i am wearing a bag and the smaller bag is perfect! the other one was so massive.
and being that i own my own company and work from home i can wear a small bag cuz i have i can use the toilet as often as i want with no worries!

sorry, just excited!

but back to the original poster's question... i asked the nurse about the velcro seal and she said that they do get batches of dodgey ones every now and then. she doesn't think it is because of new design.

kazygirl: glad to hear you were able to get it straightened out. A good ostomy nurse is worth their weight in gold!

I use the Hollister mini pouches and haven't had a problem with the closure. The only issue I have is the filters get clogged easily.

I have the same issue with the flap leaking right where is glue? on. Just have to be really gentle with the peeling on and off of the velcro. I wish they had kept the other velcor part as wll as the second.

They have changed a lot this last couople years and not for the better. Seems cheaper and less durable. I tried to change to another brand but they were worse at staying on for me. Would come off by the end of a day! Still lookingfor the perfect appliances but trying to be grateful it's not the past where they really had issues.
