Before I had surgery my eyesight was -6.75 in my left eye and -6.25 in my right eye. Well last time I had them measured a few years ago it had gone down a tiny bit, but now they are at -5.00 for each one! That's a really big improvement, the eye dr said it could def be from getting off the meds and getting rid of uc!
Just wanted to share.

That's great Summer. Those meds must be something if they can affect vision. Yikes! Rosemary

i don't know if you were on prednisone or not, but that stuff causes eyes to go wonky, bad, blurry etc... also causes glaucoma.
i remember getting my eyes checked when on higher doses of pred cuz they were blurry and i found it hard to read anything.

i'd say it was definitely the meds or your superchic! scool

Excellent! My eyes were messed up on pred too.....

You do get more far sighted as you get older though, this happens to everyone (hence the holding the page far away to read the tiny print that most of us over a certain age start doing....) But the eye doc would know the difference between that and your situation....

I Found that i would pass people in the street, got my eyes tested and have worn glass for distance for about 12 years now and my eyes never improved, so your very lucky if yours have,congrats.

THat is so awesome! Being off a lot of medication feels so great, especially when you notice things like this. That's very cool.

Sorry Summer to bring this to your attention....my eyes have also improved and I was told it was a sign of OLD AGE!.....lol

Really? That doesn't make sense, I thought senses got worse with age?

I was told it had to do with some sort of discolouration in the lens of your eyes that occurs as we age. That discolouration bends the light differently when it passes through the lens and actually helps correct nearsightedness. For the last four or five years my nearsightedness has progressively improved. HOWEVER.....I need reading glasses more and more (drives me crazy!)

I would not say that your eyes get better as you age. You get more far sighted, so if you were nearsighted, that part seems better. But it also starts taking longer to change your focus to different distances -- for me it felt like it happened all of a sudden, when I was 40. If I was in a place like a bookstore, it felt like I had to stare at a book for extra time for the title to come into focus. I thought I might be going blind....

Then the eye doctor used the analogy, "let's say you're a teacher," not hypothetical for me, I am... but he talked about having to shift from close focus looking at your notes to far focus looking at the students, and how that got hard. Now I have bifocals, so I can shift quickly by using a different part of the lens.
