I'm going in for my takedown surgery tomorrow, and so this morning I did my final change and said goodbye to my loop ostomy. I'm feeling very good about
this surgery, and hoping that the recovery will go well!

I thought about
you today when I got a call asking me to shift my surgery to the 31st! I hoped that didn't happen to you also!
Good luck tomorrow, Ju! I am so happy your day has come! Update when you get a chance.

I remember my final change too, on March 19th! Somehow I felt like I was losing a very close friend, the stoma, the poor thing, that had no idea it would have to be a stoma and then no idea it would have to go back inside.
Be patient with yourself, lots of things to get used to. No case is the same so don't expect what one person says was easy or another says is difficult. I'm having a less easy time with my new jpouch, but it I know it was the only possibility for me and I still feel glad I don#t have to wear a bag.

Hi all! I am now "bagless"! Feeling very very tired. Had weird spasms at the stoma site in the recovery room, those hurt really bad. Now I just feel like I did a thousand stomach crunches. I was very lightheaded and nauseous last night when I tried to stand to go to the bathroom, but it's not so bad today and I was able to go for a short walk. No gas or bm's yet, but I am okay being patient. Too tired to start having to go back and forth to the toilet yet, anyway.
Thank you all so much for the well wishes and good thoughts!
Now, to sleep... zzz...

Just checking in... No gas or poop yet. I walked around a lot yesterday, though, and started hearing little gurgly noises in my belly last night. I'm just trying to relax and enjoy the downtime I have now- I know tha once things start moving I won't be just laying here in bed as much. My surgeon just stopped in and said essentially the same thing- that once things start, my "butt will be working overtime."
uc-free, when was your surgery supposed to be? I'm sorry they switched it on you. :( I keep thinking about
how you will be here soon- all the nurses and PCA's in the GI floors are great, I know they will take good care of you. :)

I had to laugh! I was at the hospital today, and I was actually right next the the GI section with the ostomy nurse, who was writing me a note for work. I went in to be marked for surgery next week. It was supposed to be Tues, 5/29 but got switched to Thurs, 5/31. Not too big of a deal.
I did ask her where I would go after surgery and she told me the GI section.
Happy to hear you are up and moving around!!

Windy City, thank you! So far, so good... Still waiting to pass something, just trying to be patient.
Uc-free, I had to laugh as well when I read you were here yesterday. :) I was probably walking my laps around the nurses station on the floor I'm on (there are two GI floors, as far as I know).
Well, maybe my next post will be about
something besides "still waiting." In the meantime, walking, walking, walking. :)
