When I got my bag, my Ostomy nurse told me I could no longer lift, push, or pull anything over 25 lbs because of a risk for hernias. Apparently I'm much more likely to get a hernia (and come to think of it, the two people in my life I've known to have an ostomy bag of any kind do, in fact, have hernias).
My question, after the Jpouch and take down surgeries, after the recovery, am I still limited???
I lift dogs, dog food, etc and limiting myself to 25 lbs is going to be difficult/impossible. My smallest dog is 30 lbs on a thin day.
How about
bowling?? I used to bowl on an ABC sanctioned league with a 13 + pound ball (a few years ago I was ready to move up in size of the ball but probably not so much now). But my bag has two bowling balls in it plus gear and the bag totals up to probably 50 pounds. If I have limits, rolling that ball down the lanes 30+ times in one night could be a problem too. And I LIKE bowling. That's a physical activity most people can do as they age. And we go out with friends bowling on occasion and I don't want to stop that.
I was raised by a tom-boy and have always been active and strong. Well.. Until this year. And I REALLY hate adding limitations to the ones I already had from a bad back (car wrecks and ex psycho--physical therapy taught me the tricks to do whatever I wanted anyway) and female issues.
I know I sound whiney. I'm sorry. It's not helping that it is 4:11am and I can't sleep. In 10 days I start back to work. Not able to sleep at night is not going to work for me at all..
