Thanks everyone.. it means a lot to have your support and know you know how it hasn't been an easy ride. I'm not sure how fit I can get or if I'll ever get to do an Ironman, but I just have to give it a try.
uc_free - I feel exactly the same. Prior to all of this I was competing for GB in triathlon, running 39 mins for a 10km and hoping for a sub 12 hour Ironman. I used to place in the top 3 in most triathlons and win my age group. Coming back I now run about
50 mins for 10km and am heavier and SO unfit in comparison. It's VERY hard. But you just have to forget about
old PB's and what you used to be able to do. I drew a line under my times after surgery and now have a new PB.. it's my PBPB (post bag PB
) It's all different now and I'm just proud of my achievements given what I've gone through. I might be slower, BUT I'm here and competing again and frankly don't care what other people think anymore. I'm just proud of how I've coped and to be alive and racing again.
Forget about
your old times and just be proud to be there. Try something new, a triathlon, a different distance or a race you've not done before so you can't draw a comparison, but I reckon you'll build your fitness and confidence and probably surprise yoursel. Go and just try a gentle run and see how you get on??
