I know it is an allergy this time, and now I seem to be allergic to Coloplast as well.  I am wondering now about the 3M spray.  Does anyone use that?  Does it provide a good barrier?  I have absolutely no idea what to do now.  I have tried all of the big name products, and every single one of them makes me break out.  I am truly at a loss now, and beyond discouraged. 

I think I will have to eventually get the k-pouch, but I am allergic to all bandaids to, so even covering that will be no easy task. 

UCwife are you out there?  What is the regimen your husband uses?  I remember you speaking of the same problems with him.

Dangnabbit !!!  You just can't catch a break, can you?

If you are asking about 3M Cavilon, I use it and I like it.  Right now I am using the wipes, but I think I actually prefer the spray.

AnotherUCWife will probably be along, but she recently posted to one of my queries that her hubby uses the Coloplast Sensura system and Smith & Nephew Barrier Prep in the pump spray.

I have recently posted about Trio Healthcare and their products Niltac Adhesive Remover and Silesse Barrier Wipes/Spray.  Convatec just acquired this company so hopefully they will become more readily available with the supply companies.   Here is a little review with pics.  This fella sings the praises of Silesse in clearing up a skin issue around his stoma that he had for 14 years.

I have also read where others claim the Silesse helped clear up issues under the wafer.

I just made an appt at mt sinai with someone who specializes in the type of rashes/allergies/eczema I am dealing with. I REALLY think I am dealing with another automimmune disease, and although I strongly dislike the thought of immunosuppressants, I will do whatever it takes to find relief at this point. So, hope is restored, AND I will get to the bottom of this, but for now I just need a temporary fix until the 18th, which is when my appts take place. Maybe I will try one of the sprays. If it works, great, if it doesn't, well I guess I still have some other options.

GOSH DANG IT! I am so ... so.... ugh, just so upset for you. I really hope you can find something that works soon and be done with this - keep us posted!

I saw that there is a company that sells an adhesive free product. I can't remember who though?? Basically it is a reusable system and you use belts to hold the wafer on...Have you seen this? Maybe it will work to help u clear up the rash??

PolishDan swears by this ointment called Tincture of Benzoin. He puts it on under his wafer every change and he says it cures just about every skin irritation. I use it every other change (antifungal powder and barrier wipe on the other changes) and I like it too.

I looked into the adhesiveless system by Nu Hope, called the company, and they said I can't even order a sample without an ostomy nurse's approval. Apparently the rings can only work with certain body types and builds. I asked the representive about the body types to which he was referring, and he told me I had to get in touch with my ostomy nurse. I just put in a call to the nurses and no one answered.

See, this is the part that gets me - here I am trying like heck to take resposibility and be proactive, and as usual, my life has to be in other's hands. It seems like something so simple, but that is so far from the truth.

Crap!!!! Yes hubby had some issues with wafers that had the outer adhesive and the only thing that has cooperated (at least for now) is the Coloplast Sensura system and the Smith and Nephew skin barrier prep spray in a pump bottle.

I have read that if any kind of topical item needs to be prescribed by a dermatologist that it should be in a gel form...not a lotion or cream as it will impact the wafer adhering whereas the gel will be absorbed by the skin???

Oh dear. I wish I had some sort of advice to give, but I do not... just want to encourage you to keep your chin up. I know it must be hard and frustrating... but you will find an answer/fix for this, whatever form it comes in.
