Swimmimg with ileostomy

I have had my ileostomy for 2 years and was never brave enough to put on a swimsuit and swim with it.

Well last week we went to Panama City beach and I am happy to say that I finally conquered that fear.

I wear convatech moldable wafer and it stayed on. I went into the ocean and swam in the swimming pool and I had no issues.

So if anybody is worried, don't be. It was like I didn't even have a bag on.

Before the temp ileo, I was swimming laps regularly. I started out with an ostomy secrets swim wrap and sure seals over my wafer. After a month I stopped using the wrap and sure seals. The Hollister wafer stayed on just fine. I have not found a system that stays on in water with my loop ileo. It is located too close to my navel so I cannot get a good seal. I really miss swimming. Six days to take down!

That's awesome! I love to swim, too, and was so excited the first time I went swimming and the wafer didn't fall off. I couldn't believe that it actually stayed on.

Living in Florida, swimming in the summer is almost a necessity for survival. Now, I swim at waterparks, the beach, and in family and friends' pools. We even got a pool last summer, so I swim almost every day at home when it's hot outside, which is about 6 months a year. It's so refreshing!

If anyone is afraid, you just have to conquer your fear and just go for it! If your wafer stays on in the tub, then it will stay on in a pool. You can also cut the wafer off center and trim the edge, so you get a good seal.

     Hey Tracy...long time no see !  Glad to hear you are doing well and back into the swing of things!!!  I went swimming last year, one year post op.  The Jersey ocean is the pits .  I just went into a pool at one of the casinos.  I believe the beach in LBI is closed due to needles washing up onto the sand..YUK!    What I can't figure out is why they close one beach and the beach one block down is open....could it possibly be clean at one end and dirty at the other?      It's been sooooo hot here the past couple of days too.
