Hello everyone! I had a total colectomy on Monday. It took 5.7 hours. When I came through I asked the doctors if they were done already...lol. Initially I thought 6 hours were long but it went by very fast. I was given an epidural for pain management because I did not want to feel loopy and tired. Unfortunately I was itching all over. The pain is definitely insane. At six this morning I began to vomit all over the place and a fever came out of no where. My fever was 102.6 and my heart rate went up to 138. Since surgery, my heart rate has been higher than the norm. As of this evening I am feeling better. My small intestines has not woken up yet. And that could be the reason for vomitting. I am not hungry at all which is a good thing since I am only allowed to have ice chips until my digestive system wakes up. Stay tuned for further updates.

Glad you're feeling better today! Make sure to walk as much as you can, since walking helps wake up the intestine.
Hope things start moving soon!

Congrats on getting through the surgery but sorry you're not feeling that great. It's major stuff, so don't expect too much of yourself too soon. The bowel can take a while to wake up and it's not uncommon to have something called a post-operative ileus. This will pass eventually, but it can cause vomiting, distention and pain until things start moving. Hopefully things will start to wake up soon and you'll be able to eat something. Stay on the ice chips until you're ready. Try to walk if you can. Keep us posted and good luck!

Congrats on a successful surgery! Hope you feel better soon. As others mentioned, walk as much as you can, it really helps.

Thanks everyone. I am up walking and when I'm not walking I sit up in a chair...no bed. I even doze off in the chair...lol. This morning I got clearance to drink water and have apple juice...that's it. Let me tell you, it's the best tasting water ever. My pain level is still high and I have been given loads and loads of antibiotics. My white blood cell count was too high. My small intestines are still on vacation

My doctor just took the folely out so that means a lot of up and down to the toilet. Hopefully no accidents in the future.

My doctor says I have at least five more days in the hospital but no complaints. I rather not rush and have to come back for a problem that was looked over.
