 I was thinking about trying to manipulate my output around my work schedule.On the use of imodium, or anything else like it, does it slow the output and the at some future time you have 2ce the output?

Also does it matter if it's pill form or liquid? Currently I eat some peanutbutter in the morning and it seems to slow things down somewhat for 3 or 4 hours. Does Imodium slow it or pretty much stop it altogether? Lastly, does it cause any type of blockage etc. By the way I have an ileostomy.

Immodium slos your intestine and makes the output thicker. I don't think it makes less output, but someone correct me if I am wrong. If you have an illeostomy, you don't really need to take it unless you are losing too much water.

I was actually looking for something to make the ileo more manageable during certain hours. I had read somewhere where people took it before trips to keep from emptying as much, but not sure if that was for an ileostomy or not.

I have an ileostomy, and I've started to use Immodium all the time. For me, it slows or stops the output depending on how much I have eaten and my nerves. Each dose seems to last 4 hours or so, then output will resume, though thicker and usually quieter. After 2 1/2 years with the permanent ileostomy, I'm considering using it a lot more than I have previously. Mainly - I want to get a better night's sleep, so I think I'm going to start using it before bed. But also during the day - there's just so much more liquid without it, and so many more trips to the restroom. I think it's a quality of life issue for me - I just haven't researched any long-term effects from daily use. I'll try to remember to update this post when I find anything out.

Yes, its a great tool to slow down and thicken your output. Key is to take it at least 30 minutes before a meal. If you haven't taken it before I would start real slow.. say take 1 pill before your dinner meal for a few days. And then add on more slowly. You can take up to 8 a day. When I had a very high output ileostomy I took 2 before each meal and 2 before bed time. It made a huge difference. Without it, I would've been in the ER regularly for IV hydration.

My doctor told me that when you no longer have a colon, you can take more than 8. Somtimes I do 10.
