Colostomy concerns

Hello my name is Brian, i have been wearing a  colostomy now for 7 years and i am pretty comfortable about it now but in the beginning i was very anti-social and depressed from having to wear it. I think it is AWESOME  that there is a forum available for people to openly discuss their colostomy. I wish i had found this forum 7 years ago it would have made adjusting to my colostomy alot easier. I have a  serious  question....when i go into the bag it always feels like my bowels (butt) is still trying to do my business for me  which i know is impossible.....here lately when i have a bowel movement into my colostomy bag , i have noticed some  bleeding from my butt hole.....what could be causing this to happen ?? It only happens when i have a bowel movement into my bag the rest of the time i have no bleeding at all. I am scared to death................part of the reason i havent had a reversal done is my fear of dying during or from the surgery..........and my surgeon told me that re-attachment was possible but he didnt recommend it because i have severe diveriticulitis throughout my large intestine.  PLEASE HELP !!! I honestly  am terrified of doctors and hospitals since i had to have my emergency surgery 7 years ago and  pretty much refuse to go to the doctor unless i am in major pain or discomfort, i never used to hate  going to the doctor or hospital until my surgery but i was stuck in the hospital for 35 days with it and i guess i am afraid  that will happen again........who knows.........i have had severe depression since my surgery also is that "normal" for someone with a colostomy ??? Also i have tried numerous times to get disability since this happened and have been denied every time any advice on what to do ????

I think I remember someone on here saying that you can't get disability for an ostomy because it doesn't keep you from being able to find work. You may have other stuff going on though, but I think just an ostomy wouldn't qualify you for disability.

I applied for SSD back in 2002 because my Crohn's Disease made it impossible for me to continue the line of work I was doing. I tried a part time desk job and found that even that wasn't going to be a do-able thing for me anymore either. I also developed severe asthma (COPD). Life was continuing to get harder by the day it seemed. Joint pain, muscle pain and the use of Narcotic Pain Medication all combined to get an appeal of my decision, I was then at that point was given a positive determination. It did take a Social Security Lawyer along with all of my Physicians working on my behalf.
It is a hard battle but if you are truly unable to hold gainful employment due to your physical or emotional health it is one that you can win.

Also, I am facing the surgery you already have and I am worried about your bleeding issue. I would be calling asap to find out what should or shouldn't be happening.
