Before surgery I purchased a bunch of massage hours which need to be used up with in a year. Was wonder if you can lay flat on your belly for massages or is it best to just lay on the side? I've heard of leaks if you lay on the right side while sleeping so I wasn't sure if this would pertain to massage positions too!

Don't they sometimes have special equipment that is used for pregnant women? Maybe it could be used to avoid pressure on your belly?

I often sleep on my right side all night and have never had a leak while sleeping.

I sleep on my right as well as I have a drain coming out my left butt cheek due to an Abscess after surgery. I haven't had problems either...but I'm not laying right on my bag either.

I figure for 30 min and on an empty bag it may be ok? Anyone have any experiences?

I've been wondering about this too. Would love a massage during this pred taper!

I had a massage today -- didn't do anything special; it's fine. I'd be careful if you're close to surgery and your abdominal area is sore, but I've had no issue with the bag leaking. I go to someone who saw me before surgery and knows all about my health issues.... I was the first person she'd had w/an ostomy bag, but we just played by ear, and it's been no big deal.

I go for massages and have even treated myself to some 90-minute ones since surgery. As long as I empty my pouch beforehand, I am fine laying on my belly for that long. I do roll up a small towel and place it under the middle of my belly just to give my pouch and stoma a little extra room, but that is the only special thing I do. I did decide to tell my massage therapist about my ostomy and she was really understanding. I have had some post-surgery muscle imbalances and she has helped work on some of the resulting tightness from those. I thought it was important for her to know about my surgery.
