Pass gas with iliostomy?

     Are you having a j-pouch or is it a permanent ileo?  I have a permanent ileo and never passed gas through the anus.  I say anus because I have no rectum.

Had mine for nine weeks, and it happened only once for me. It all depends on what parts you have left ;-) and what type of ileo. With a loop ileo it is technically possible for fluid, air, even food to pass through the loop and down out the anus, nothing to be concerned about. Also when our guts are empty for some reason they are more likely to form gas. So don't stress. Although gas can sometimes be uncomfortable, it's pretty much harmless.
