What a nightmare! I do not think I am going to last! The two failed stoma revisions out west. Then them having no long term plan other than the permanent drain tube in my stoma. So dec 23 prior to the med evac plane to the east hopsital, I had to have one more drain tube put in out west in their ER. On that day, the resident that did it puut an extra string to secure the drain tube and that extra string actually got pushed into my stoma when she inserted the tube. Then the stoma totally recessed for a day. When it came back out it swelled. The string was actually cutting into the side of the stoma due to the tension on it from being pushed into the stoma by the tube.
Saw the east hospital consult doc on the 24th. At that time the stoma had not swollen from the extra string. But two days later it did.
The 27th I went to the ER here in the east and a really good resident helped ease the offending extra string out. Since then the area cut by the extra string is scarring to heal and the scar tissue is denting in that whole side of the stoma and a crack is appearing from the top of the scar tissue up to the tube in the narrowed opening. The doc here said that I would have to wait 6 months for internal adhesions to soften before he could resite the stoma to the other side.
As of yesterday I had a partial small bowel obstruction on only clear liquid boost breeze protein drink and was in the ER 18 hours! Ct scan showed a narrowing from adhesions further in from the stoma. Very likely from the scar tissue from. The out west failed surgery. Maybe even from the unconsented total colectomy done there. One could never prove that was the cause but..............we will never know. I had made that doc very aware that I was a scar tissue former. Then she lied and said in the op report I had asked about colon removal. I would not have having had so many issue with adhesions.
Anyway, so today back at the hotel. Since not being able to eat at all since mid nov due to the second failed stoma revision out west, I have lost 17 lbs and am now down to 115. That is even a 3 lb loss since dec 24. Now that I cannot even pass clear boost breeze, I am living on basically clear liquids. The east hospital says no tpn. BUT??????????
What do i live on? And how do I gain weight to prepare for the surgey where the stoma gets reseated on the other side? I am 400 miles south if my house and was the only consult appt I was given. Sooo too bad my iriginal stoma surgeon had retired when the first good stoma slammed shut this spring and nobody there would deal with it. Would have saved me sooooooo much!
