has anyone ever had an enlarged small intestine?

I have a permanent ileostomy. The output has slowed down and sometimes none at all. Today I had a. Upper gi small bowel series. The tech couldn't get my xray, so the doctor did them. He showed me that a small intestine diameter should be about 3cm, but mine is 12cm. He wouldn't say more, other than he wants a Ct scan done, too. Has anyone had this happen before?

I do not have a bag, but my surgeon did tell me that when he took my large intestine out, that the small would stretch out a bit to take the job of the large...maybe this is what is happening to you?
Not sure, but sounds reasonable...

Ño, it's too extended for that. It is scaring me, because my drs at Cleveland clinic would like my test results faxed to them. I can't get my results until next week and am really worried. The gastronomy Dr where I live isn't up on as many treatments as Cleveland clinic.

you can go to the facility where you had your tests and pick up a CD. And then overnight that CD to your doctors at cleveland clinic. I know they will want to look at the actual CD and/or xrays not just your local radiologist or doctors interpretion of them. I think nowadays any facility will put something on a CD for you in a very quick matter of time.
good luck but I would definitely get on that and get the tests to cleveland clinic asap so they can take a look.

Thank you. I will definitely overnight a CD to Cleveland Clinic. I just need to get my results back so that I can move forward. ive had two surgeries at Cleveland Clinic Florida. I had a colectomy and later my permanent ileostomy.

I am anxious to get results too. Cleveland Clinic is waiting for a copy of test results too. I am going to go to my drs office tomorrow and ask nurse to see him, he's gastric doc that ordered the tests. I have been stabbing pains the.past two days that come and go. They actually made me cry today. Almost went to emergency room, but I don't know what they can do, except a CT scan and wait for my other test results. I am unsure if they would admit me or not. I wish that they would.

Still no test results. One of the general surgeon's who did my original ileostomy said that he would call me in the morning with my test results and would make a game plan from there. Thank God for his help. I called his answering service at 5:30 this afternoon and he called me right back. Do you think I could have a hernia?

I see my gastroenterologist today at 4:30 and he's going to go over my test results with me. Past surgeon says I have inflammation, but I don't understand where my pain is coming from. It's about an inch to the right and below my ileostomy. Cleveland clinic Dr hasn't called me back yet as they are off campus at a colorectal conference. I'm so frustrated and my therapist has to be tired of my anxiety. I feel like no one is listening!

It can feel like you are soo alone, but remember you ARE NOT.. It is horrible when you feel like your doctors have abandoned you at your hour of need.. We are here for you, and will listen. Sometimes we just need to lean on each other. Hopefully your appointment went well and you got some answers.. FIngers crossed for you!

Thankyou. It is so easy to feel alone. Many drs don't understand my intestinal problems. I've had 4 surgeries to get to my ileistomy. My gastronomy Dr went over my test results with me on Thursday afternoon. He was full of doom and gloom. It looks like one of the loops in my small intestine is enlarged and is a resovoir for my stool. My constipation and dehydration may be giving me pain. I may need surgery, depending on Ct interography test tomorrow. My Dr is worried that if I need surgery, I won't have enough small intestine left for absorption of nutrients. He wants to refer me to shands or Mayo hospitals possibly, but I told him my last surgeon was at Cleveland clinic. A Dr from Cleveland clinic called this morning about my test results and they want more testing for me too. So we will all be waiting to see my test results on this coming Wednesday. I am in shock.

I am doing CT interography test. I have to drink four bottles of barium. I drink one every twenty minutes. I have there down and feel like gagging. They finally got my iv in with a pic needle! After barium pictures are done,dye goes thru me. God, I hate this.

How are you today??? How did your tests go?? Hope you are doing better.. What is the inerography test? Haven't heard of that one yet..I had to do a defacography..that was intersting, to say the least! When I asked the doc what it was he said "Well, they fill this caulking gun with barium and mashed potatoes, then they fill up your bottom with it, and make you sit on a toilet and empty out while they take x rays"... I busted out laughing... he was dead on accurate!! They came at me with a caulking gun filled with barium and mashed potatoes..then I had to sit on a porta potty while they took x rays of how it came out... NOT in a hurry to do that again... but hey, if we can't laugh at some of this, we may lose our minds :) Keep your humor, and when you wnat to cry, remember a caulking gun...

Yes, I remember that embarrassing test, too.. After awhile there is no modesty. My test took a CT of you after you drank the barium, and then a CT while dye went thru you. I'm not supposed to find out the results until Wednesday afternoon. Talk about anxious. I cried all weekend, and my husband was prickly and on edge. After 4 surgeries, we're so afraid of more.

My test results are in and I saw my Dr. I have two things going on with me. First, I have a massive cyst in my pelvic region that has to be removed surgically and my Dr doesn't think that it is cancerous. Secondly, I have adhesions within a loop of my small intestines which are dilated. I will most likely need a bowel resection. I'm waiting for appoointment dates for a gynocology surgeon and a general surgeon. At the same time, I am waiting for a call from Cleveland clinic with their recommendations. Depending on what they say, I have an appointment scheduled for Monday with them. The biggest problem is that they're ten hours away and its difficult to travel back and forth. Also, I'm still not aware of how much small bowel I have left.
