Rectum removal sched. for the 17th and SCARED!!

This is a great post HVACCHRONIE as I was scoped yesterday again to determine the condition of the leftovers of my colectomy in May 2011. There's still bleeding and mucous but he's not precluding pouch surgery until he gets me opened up which is now scheduled May 13th. I have the same concerns and more and if J pouch is not possible, I'm hopeful that he can just remove the stump and I presume the rectum and leave the anus intact because I'm worried about my "junk" not functioning post surgery. It would be great to hear from guys that have had everything removed and if/how it's affected performance of their "little buddy" My little buddy works great now and I can live with a permanent ileo but would be saddened to live without my junk in tact....Sorry if this is offensive to anyone and feel free to email me if you are hesitant to post. I had a proctocolectomy with end ileostomy 3 weeks and 2 days ago. My surgeon chose not to sew my anus closed because I was SO sick and malnourished, she was worried that the extra, difficult to heal from wound would be too much for me to handle. Both her and my GI said this shouldn't cause me any problems in the future, but that I can have the procedure done eventually if I need or want to.

I have had a small bit of mucus drainage from my bottom, mostly at night and not bad at all. It's nothing a very thin panty liner can't handle. And the reason for this mucous is NOT any sort of active disease. That may be the case with some people, but certainly not everyone. The anus will always produce mucous, whether being used or not, because that is what it is made to do. In some people this eventually stops happening, slows down completely, or just keeps up. As with everything else, we are all different.

I will consider getting sewn up in the future, depending on what happens. To anyone who has had this surgery done on it's own, after the big surgery, how bad was it??
