Step 2 - pain on right side

Hello. I wrote a while ago and received some great feedback regarding my takedown surgery. I have another issue that I'm struggling with and that's pain every now and then on the ride side below where my stoma used to be (it was on the right side). My bloating has definitely gotten better, although it seems I get gassy easily but I'm feeling so much better than before.

It's this sharp pain that I get every once in a while that's bothering me now. Does anyone else get them? I noticed that I tend to get this pain usually like 30 minutes after a meal. I'm still on a sort of semi-liquid diet (well, it's just normally mashed up food and soups that I get). I get these sharp pains when I drink hot soup (and it's only like a tiny cup).
And afterwards, I find it hard to walk. I have to wait till the pain calms.

Do you get those pains often? Do they last long? I had really horrible pain around 2 am this morning. It was like a sudden thing out of the blue. I finished dinner at 6:30 pm so I'm thinking...it can't possibly be due to the food..?? They did start me on more solid foods from last night and since I didn't want porridge, I asked if they could possibly change it to bread so that's what I got. The pain early this morning was so bad that I had to buzz the nurse. She came and gave me pain meds which I didn't end up taking since the pain went away 10 min later. Ugh, that was a killer, though. Yes, I've been telling the nurses/surgeons when they come around so they're checking on me every now and then. Well, they also probably think that the pain will subside eventually but sheesh I'm starting to think that my second step was way harder on me than the first one ;) And yes, I'm still in the hospital. They think they can let me go in the next 5 days or so once they can get me on more solid foods.

Another thing....I had to push real hard for stool to come out (I'm bloated again) and when I did, I noticed that white mucous was coming out as well.....that worries me ...:( when I still had UC before my first surgery, I used to have that same stuff come out when I used the restroom. Doesn't that come from an inflamed colon...? My surgeons told me that because I had rectal cancer, they took a lot a lot of muscle out from my bum - meaning they took out much of my colon as possible near the rear.

I wouldn't worry about the mucus. I remember my surgeon telling me I may pass small amounts of blood and mucus (I passed mucus the entire time I had my ileo...that's normal) after surgery for a little while. I don't remember if I did or not. Lol, I remember thinking those crazy thoughts too about surgeons leaving tools inside people after operating. You hear these stories on the news and it just leaves you shaking your head!

probably adhesions around your stoma site. Couple things to try - eat smaller amounts at a time. Drink a lot of fluids after you eat. Move around after you eat. Always at miniumum go for a walk after eating. Also you can try a heating pad and massage in the area. Generally these adhesions should loosen up a bit and won't be so bothersome for you.

Most definitely the pain is from adhesions. It may or may not get better with time.
