Just wanted to post some encouragement to those fast approaching their surgery dates or fresh out of surgery to realize that, while there are a few ups and downs and adjustment for some weeks after surgery, it rapidly gets better. Bloggers like blueheron and Pluot have made this clear in their blogs, but I thought I'd throw in a few huge changes in the past few weeks that have happened for me:
-- The "mini pregnancy" bump I complained about
in my lower ab has greatly reduced since I posted that (it seems that closing my slow healing re-
opened midline incision and knocking out a mild infection there played some part) and is almost gone now, and will be all gone soon at this rate- and I haven't even started gradually working my abs yet as will start happening in a month or so;
-- my stoma pretty much never makes audible noise now (it used to) nor is gas that requires burping my bag anything but a rarity now - they pretty much only occur (and even then very mild, barely audible now) if i eat certain foods or beverages that are grassier; they never occur if I eat low carb stuff;
-- I can eat a big meal if I want without any issues of bloating or discomfort;
-- I don't have to go crazy chewing food anymore- I try to but when I forget, I have not paid any price;
-- I can eat low carb without having to stuff starches in there to help mix up my meat and veggies;
-- I tolerate yogurt and cheese fine Now (a month ago I still had gas and bloating from them; couldnt tolerate them at all with my UC in recent years);
-- I tolerate spices, seasonings, and sweet foods fine too- if I eat a *lot* of sweets my output will get liquid for about
a day so I try not to go overboard, and I believe in low carb any way so that is not a problem for me;
-- I never require any pain meds anymore for incision pain;
-- energy is 80% back to normal (the remaining 20% is awaiting my return to the gym in 5 weeks- as I am restricted again due to recent plastic surgery on my incission).
-- I have figured out how to prevent leaks from happening - my two tiny leaks were entirely due to mistakes on my part; I easily get 5 days out of my wafers- havent tried pushing beyond that.
It keeps getting better and better.
