Hi Ladies,
It seems like everyone is coming along -- that's great!
Zoe, I can' believe how skinny you were before the surgery. Now, your weight is just too low. You need to be drinking Ensure Plus. That's what my doctor gave me in 1993 after I went through that wonderful divorce diet and went down to the low 90's. All my life, my perfect weight has been between 108 and 112, and like I said before, I'm 5'2". After my Sigmoid surgery, I went up to 118, I think because of all the bulk foods I had to eat. Also, when I'm in pain, I find it very hard to deprive myself of anything. So, I've been up and down going between 112 and 118 for the past 3 years. Yet, I'm still mostly a size 2. Weird... Anyway, I welcome the weight loss. I can't imagine what it must feel like not to be bloated anymore. It must be amazing.
Thanks for the info about the aloe (and the Desitin Sara). Previous posts have talked about creams, but didn't mention the type. I was telling my husband about the fear of rear burns and he said not to worry because he had some wonderful H medication perscribed by his physician called Analpram HC (hydrocortisone acetate 2.5%; pramoxine HCI 1%; and Cream 2.5%). He also suffers from Crohns, so he should know what he's talking about. I haven't asked my surgeon about this yet, but will do so the next chance I get, which may be just prior to surgery. Can you imagine how frustrating my married life has been (10 years) watching my husband have BMs after every meal. Boy, have I been jealous!
One more thing Zoe, you don't need to worry about me doing too much, no matter who comes over; I'm the queen of taking it easy! Even when we have company, I say, "You know where the fridge is and glasses, and of course you know there is never any food in the house, so don't even go there and don't bug me." That's my life, and believe it or not, people still come by -- strange. As a matter of fact, they come by bearing food -- life is good!
Emma, the only thing I'm thinking of packing and having my husband bring to the hospital is some facial creams (other than the supplies for the other end previously mentioned) and a hair brush. Like Sara said, no way will you want anything touching your tummy after surgery. Also, I didn't take a shower until the 4th or 5th day after the sygmoid surgery either. Don't worry about covering your rear while walking the hospital halls with your hospital gown; it's easy to cover. What I'm worried about is having a leak as I'm walking the halls (hee-hee).
Sara, I'm so happy you're finally going! You had me worried there for a while. I'm sure your positive attitude in the face of complications did wonders for you. You're an inspiration to us all!
Sara and Zoe, I can't even think about having salty foods to retain water. I've been doing the opposite for so long, it would almost feel like I'm going against my religion or something. Also, wouldn't excess salt burn on the way out too? Recently, I've become a big fan of Arizona Diet Green Tea with Ginseng (ice tea). I have no problem drinking large quantities of that -- do you guys think that will cover the dehydration problem? I just can't see myself juicing (too much work, specially clean-up). But, luckly I have many restaurants near me that provide fresh carrot juice (and guava juice, my favorite). Regardless of how this sounds, I too plan on getting extremely healthy and exercising after sugery.
Emma, I'll e-mail you later today. My hubby needs the computer now for some business stuff.
Later Ladies,
Amira
