Helping him with his Ileostomy

Hello Everyone,

My Husband is adjusting to his Ileostomy best can be for now. It has been a learning experience for us both. No real troublesome issues. Happy he has been given more time to battle his cancer that caused his colon blockage.

The stealth belt is unaffordable. I have made him a pouch to help support the bag. It works well. This has given him more confidence when out in public and he says it keeps it from moving around through the night. Puts a smile on my face to know I have helped him even more.

He was wanting to return to work today but I am more at ease he changed his mind. He is a construction man so the elements alone with warm weather would not do him any favors currently. In due time. I know he needs this for his own self worth.

23 staples removed yesterday from the ostomy surgery. Healing well, cancer symptoms keeping him down but doing better. Gained 3 lbs since he has been home. This is a plus. Chemo scheduled to begin again the 30th this month. Fattening him back up is a must.

Hopefully chemo will do a better job after they find a more effective med to work for him. Holding it at bay is better than the worse. Since he still has his colon, his ostomy can be reversed in the future is our Hope.

Hi, reading your post and your so supportive of your husband, that's great! Bet that has helped him tremendously! You've made a pouch, how about considering making like a cumberbund? I found in the lingerie section, you can find silky, stretchy camisoles...made of lycra, cut the top half off and use the bottom to go around his midsection. This will hold the pouch close to his body too. I wear lycra camisoles under most of my tops now and it does give me some confidence. (plus its good support for the muscles that have been stretched or cut during surgery)

Alisa my husband from the very beginning has been using the Ostomy Secrets men's briefs and is very pleased with them. They are a longer leg brief and have an extra layer of material that supports and holds the pouch and keeps it from resting on his skin.
