Tia, I use the same Convatec stuff. The sliminess is due to the Hydrocolloid fabric. On the Convatec site it states that this is normal and you be able to pat dry the fabric and reapply it. The soap can be a major culprit here as it also mentions to keep the area free of any solvents, oils or creams. As Polishdan stated warm water should do the trick. Also, make sure you're using barrier wipes on the skin where the fabric goes, this will help it adhere. The good news is the actually wafer part in the flange seems to be holding up and not leaking, that's the most important part. If those fabric pieces continue to give you issue talk to Convatec and look into the acrylic version of those same moldable wafers. You can also talk to the ostomy nurse about
"pink tape" which is a waterproof tape designed for such things. I haven't yet tried the pink tape but my ostomy nurse ordered some.
Polishdan just had me post my change procedures in my other thread (the one about
Convatec vs coloplast) it shows my whole procedure with the same appliance your husband uses so check it out and see if there's anything I do that can benefit him. I just changed my appliance tonight and used the Hydrocolloid wafer with barrier wipe and showered shortly after with no issue and no sliminess, we will see how long that lasts though. My ostomy nurse said to change everything out every 3rd morning, that's more of a guideline than a rule obviously but if you're making it anywhere from 2-5 days I don't think you're doing bad. It's going to vary no matter what, based on activity and output so long as that stoma and skin looks good that means you're doing great. Good luck!
