so, i had my proctectomy with anal closure in august. I had a wound vac because it was so diseased,  and the surgeon said it was healed in november.  i still feel discomfort if i sit for a long period of time. I work at a desk and have been back at work full time since january. otherwise, things are great. does anyone else have his issue? should i be concerned?

I had my rectum and anus removed in November and there's still a small wound there - I left a message for my surgeon today to see fi there's anything I can do to help close it up. There's no pain when sitting, but prolonged sitting is uncomfortable for anyone.

I actually wrote about my experience with having the procedure done and have photos of the healing timeline. I had a vac on for about 5 weeks and it had to be removed because of a small complication.

My butt wound finally closed after three years and a second surgery. I still sit on a cushion though.... waiting until the scar tissue is very strong. When I don't sit on the cushion I do find it hurts some after a while. The cushion I got is from roho -- I take the cover off. Honestly, it's not good for anyone to sit for a long period of time..... when I couldn't sit much I made a standing setup (just a stool on my desk for my computer with a separate keyboard lower) so I could work standing up for a while.... .at least at home, also helps a lot. The scar tissue is only 80% as strong as regular tissue, so there might be some limitation.

Veganostomy, what finally closed my wound was a new product called endoform, that I got from my nurse. It was incredible.... wound had been stuck for over a year, plastic surgeon wanted to do another surgery and start over, and then I saw improvement in one day (although it took several months to close all the way). Some chronic wounds get off balance, and the proteins that normally clean the wound also clean the collagens you need to close it.... the endoform is made from sheep gut and restores the balance (if that is the problem).

I don't work for either of these companies :-).... just tried a lot of things....

Thanks Blueglass. I'll look into that product. I'm sure there something like that which is appropriate to use for this type of wound.

And I've been considering making a standing desk... very tempted to.

Definitely not a vegan product, though.... depends on where you draw lines (I have been vegetarian for over 30 years... .except for a few years when I was very sick and I ate fish because I couldn't digest so many things....)

Yeah, once I saw "collagen", I'd assume it's not, but I'm sure there's SOMETHING that can be used to speed up this healing. It's incredible how it could heal so quickly the first two months and then stagnate like this... it literally just has to "skin over"!

I had my anal stump removed and butt sewed shut in Dec 2013. I still have discomfort.

I was told if its sharp pain then it's the nerve ending still healing. Its a slow healing process and can take 6 months are longer. So hang in there!

I also had to get Physical Therapy on my glutes from the surgery. They did loosen up the muscle around the incision and at home I started using Vit E cream on the incision and massage it for a couple of minutes. This was recommended to me so the area stay supple and I'll have less pulling sensation. I also use a high impact roller with knobs on my butt the work out the kinks. This seems to help too.

Smd, I had my rectum removed and booty closed up two years ago. I always had slight pain when sitting that never really went away. I didn't do anything about it and after about a year it started leaking a little bit. I finally went and saw my surgeon and they realized I had formed an internal abscess and a couple fistulas. I'm still dealing with that over a year later. Currently I have a wound VAC up my booty for the past month. In January, I had a gracilis flap where they take the muscle from your inner thigh and fill the cavity. It was a big surgery and everything seemed fine but then in March it started leaking again and I got another abscess. I had a couple wound vacs with this thing, several other procedures and a big surgery. If this wound VAC doesn't heal it up, they're going to take the gracilis muscle from the other leg to fill up the hole. All this to say, if you're uncomfortable I think that's normal, if it turns into pain don't let it go. I just thought it was normal to be painful for so long, but I know now that the abscess was just growing bigger and bigger. I'm not saying this to scare you chances are everything's fine. This is just been a really long and frustrating process. My surgeon said that these wounds are notoriously difficult to heal because of low blood supply in that area, thin skin, and the fact that you're sitting on that area and moving so much. I wish you the best of luck and I hope you'll be sitting more comfortably soon!

Thanks for all the replies. I don't really have pain just discomfort that comes and goes usually when I sit too long. This past week, I have trying to not sit for more than an hour at a time and that has helped.
@Headphones, I am so sorry to hear of your troubles. If you had your rectum and anus out, where are the fistulas and abscesses coming from? I did not even know that was possible. Best of luck!!

Thank you! My surgeon said that there are so many scar tissue pockets (I've had tons of surgeries and procedures) that normal bodily fluids can get trapped and if it gets trapped it becomes infected. I started getting leaks from my former b- hole and closer to my tailbone. The fluid needs a way out and forms tracts and I think it just went to the point of least resistance, or thinnest skin. Soft cushions to sit on definitely helps me be more comfortable. I know the doughnut type are not good though, that placees too much pressure on the wrong area.
