Liquids Getting Behind the Wafer???

Switch to a convex type wafer. That will create inward pressure around the base of your stoma. Also, be extra careful when preparing to apply the wafer. The skin should be super clean and free of any oils or moisturizers. I then coat the area with a good skin prep (Friar's Balsam Tincture of Benzoin)...there are other options.

Having a temporary loop ileostomy, my stoma is very close to the skin and pointed downward,so I use a convex wafer along with a Hollister adapt barrier ring. I also do crusting, even if there is the slightest bit of rawness (stoma powder, wipe off excess with a tissue, then dab the corner of a skin barrier wipe onto the leftover powder so the bag will stick). I personally like Smith and Nephew no sting skin barrier wipes because they have a lot more liquid than others I have tried. With this method, I have good results and have had it for a year. If the stoma is that retracted, I'm not sure a convex wafer will be sufficient. Try it, but if it isn't, then I think you'd be looking at a surgical revision.
