Stoma question

I have had my ileostomy about 6 months now, but have noticed just the last few weeks that there are time where the stoma is flush with the skin level. I notice this mainly after I have been laying down. After getting up, then eventually it will go back to its usual 1/2" to 3/4" length. I was used to the stoma changing size somewhat, but now when waking up and seeing it below the level of the wafer is disturbing. Anybody else experience this?

I have had my stoma for over 14 years now, and just recently I started to get what I call "Turtle Necking" where the stoma that usually protrudes 1-1/2 to 2 inches goes inside itself like a Turtle retreating into it's shell. This would cause the leaks you described of feces getting behind the wafer and working its way to the edge.
After talking with the manufacturer of the product I use, they suggested I try a "Convex wafer" and or "Barrier seal" and they sent me samples of both rush, and free of charge.
I tried both and they both work great but the barrier seal is less expensive and applies less pressure around my stoma. The barrier seal is like an Eco seal. I suggest you call the manufacturer of the product you use and discuss it with them, I am sure they will do the same for you. Good luck WaterMaster
