I know this may sound strange, but has any one switched from having hardwater (as far as bathing) to a water softener and noticed an increase in leaks from your ostomy "appliance"?
I recently moved back in with my parents where they prefer water softener, but I feel like the soap doesn't rinse off my skin as well as when I was at my house. All my other soaps/products haven't changed...just the water. I used to get 3-4 days wear out of my Coloplast Assura two-piece pouches. Since i've moved, my skin has gotten so irritated fom the leaks that im changing every day to day and a half. This is so frustrating to me. Ive had the ostomy for 4 years now and am losing the confidence I had in my products...Any suggestions? I am going to order some other brands, and maybe try out a one-piece, or convex wafer too.
I prefer to shower without the appliance on (to let the skin breathe), so then I bought a gallon of distilled water to rinse with before I get out of the shower. I even wipe my skin with an alcohol swab to remove any residue before I stick on a new pouch... I guess everyone has trial and error as to what works for them...
just curious if anyone had this happen to them.
Thanks for reading :)
