Question about Eakins cohesive

My Eakins always seem to leave a red, indented area once I remove them- it's not irritated, just red & sort of dented in. Which is weird, cause they don't seem to put pressure on that I can feel when I'm wearing one! And I never go without, I swear the hole in my wafer is always too big, but the Eakin stops anything from getting onto my skin. Anyway- unless your skin is itchy, bumpy, blistery, super irritated & driving you nuts- it's probably not an allergy. Or even that your your skin is more sensitive- I think it's just that applying any type of adhesive to your skin for any length of time will cause some sort of reaction. I love Eakin seals... I'd continue to use them, unless as I said, the irritation is truly that- driving you nuts!

My skin is always a little red when I take off my bag & seal. It's not irritated, it's just a bit red, like what your skin would look like when you initially take off a normal plaster/band aid that you've had on for a while. I agree with Eva, unless it's irritated, itchy, bumpy, etc then it's fine!
I also love using the seals - my wafer hole is always too big but I've become a pro at putting in the seal and my skin is completely fine underneath it.
I would have very sensitive skin too - I've been using the exact same cosmetic products for years & if I change anything I get a reaction, but the supplies have been fine.
I'd a rash when I came home from hospital which was either from wipes I used there (now I just use water & gauze to clean), my skin getting used to the wafer, or from just being inexperienced in changing the bag & some output got on my skin.
I didn't try out any supplies in advance as my surgery happened very quickly. I was told by the nurses that it's very uncommon to have an actual allergic reaction to the wafers. Obviously it can happen but I think your skin gets used to it quick enough. I'm only just over 8 weeks post-op but my skin is holding up just fine!

It is completely normal to be nervous about malnourishment and dehydration. I am about 8 weeks post op and I did not have an appetite for quite a while. I also was not drinking nearly as much as I was supposed to just because of not feeling great. But, it is very important. Start food slowly but make sure you are getting sufficient nutrition and drink as much as you can! Water and Gatorade have been my best hydrators. I ended up in the emergency room about 3-4 weeks post op with very dangerously low sodium and dehydration and had to be put on a central line and stayed there overnight. Not fun! So just really make sure you are taking care of yourself!
As for the seals, I have not tried them before. I want to but my ileo is temporary and being reversed in just over a week. It doesn't really sound like it is allergy to the adhesive since it is only red. Anytime you take something adhesive off your skin it will be red. As long as it isn't persistant or bumpy like the others have mentioned. You just need to test different products and see what works best for you. It is just a lot of trial and error but once you find good products it will become much easier! It gets easier every day! Best of luck to you in your surgery! Keep us posted!

Thanks again for the responses. I have heard other stories of people going back because of dehydration at about the same post-op point as you did.
