how to order samples

So yesterday i was sent back home after my monday surgery. We had two sessions with ostomy nurse in the hospital from which i dod not remember anything as i was not responding well to the antibiotics i was given and was VERY nauseated. However, my husband did.
She did tell us to call and ask for samples, but my question is what kind of samples? my stoma is still shrinking so what do i wask for, other accessories?

Call the hospital ostomy nurse, they should have suggested sizes and product types for your ostomy. Your ostomy will shrink but for now you are probably better off cutting your wafers to size.

The hospital ostomy nurse actually ordered me samples while I was in the hospital, she gave me supplies to leave with and there were samples at my house waiting for me when I got home.

Call each of the main companies...Convatec, Hollister, Coloplast. Just tell them you just had surgery and they will all send you "welcome" packages (the ones I got included wipes, seals, bags & wafers). I agree with Keith...cutting your own wafers in the beginning is a good idea. Once your stoma is done shrinking you can get the precut wafers.

Hi Kari, glad to hear you're back home. That was fast! How are you feeling? Do what the other posters said - call the companies and ask for welcome packages. They will send them quickly. Your supply company (i.e. Edge Park) also may send you samples if you ask. You'll want a bunch of supplies on hand because in the beginning you may go through them quickly as you're getting the hang of things. You may want to just pick a pouch/wafer and do your first supply order. And definitely use the cut-to-fit for quite a while. I used the transparent pouches in the beginning because I had trouble figuring out when I needed to empty. Of course, they are disgusting...
